guido45 22 Report post Posted June 16, 2018 Sorted my faded rear lights... Before: Started with P120, then P240 (squeaky bum time) Then P400 and P600 with a bit of water/detergent Finished with a rotary mop and some T-Cut Shiny! Forgot to take pics fitted but they look pretty similar to the corner units now. I also gave her a clean and removed the plinth on the front bumper: 4 domin8or, Loadmaster, NWJW and 1 other reacted to this

NWJW 457 Report post Posted June 16, 2018 (edited) ^^^Oh feck! (Trenchy 24's sills!) I gave my sills a poke and a prod when I bought the car nearly a year ago and bar some surface rust on the passenger side rear jacking point which I treated and re-sealed they were surprisingly solid. I know that once the rot sets in though it doesn't take long to really get a hold so I haven't looked since...... Edited June 16, 2018 by NWJW
trenchy24 93 Report post Posted June 16, 2018 Mine looked ok, the inner lip was a bit crusty.....until I removed the plastic covers!! Haven't even looked at the passenger side yet. Looks just as bad, from what I can see. Just need to pluck up the courage to start attacking with a grinder!
NWJW 457 Report post Posted June 16, 2018 (edited) Normally the passenger side isn't as bad as it's the drivers side that picks up all the crap off the road and rots out first, although, as said, when I checked mine out the passenger side was worse for some reason. Edit; Your pictures appear to be of the passenger side unless I'm being thick? Edited June 16, 2018 by NWJW

NWJW 457 Report post Posted June 16, 2018 Mine is usually driven quite briskly, especially when there's someone behind in a TDi of some description who thinks that their 2.0 beast is gonig to smoke the old BMW in front..... 1 Loadmaster reacted to this

TeddyRuxpin 44 Report post Posted June 18, 2018 (edited) On 6/14/2018 at 5:29 PM, d_a_n1979 said: I thought all M54s were the same bar the size/power etc Wonder if what you got was off an M52 etc? You're right - I'm wrong! I was wrong because the bit snapped of which made it look different. The muppet wrapped it in... wallpaper not bubble wrap. However - it's all pedestrian, because upon inspection, the new one has a hairline crack in the exact same place as the old one. Of course, I only notice it after taking the car apart completely for the 700th time... because I'm a moron (I couldn't see the crack until the sun came out). So, I'll try to get a refund on ebay but it was a while back. I'll probably go the JB-Weld route and then sell the car... keep the golf v5. As beautiful as it is (rust aside), I just need something reliable at the moment as it's a daily driver and work is a bit nuts... Loadmaster 771 Report post Posted June 18, 2018 First decent run in the 540 today, a 263 mile return trip to Bath. Effortless mile muncher, very impressed. Also pleased with the 28mpg average overall. M3/A303 sat at around 80 where I could, with the return journey significantly quicker in places. 1 d_a_n1979 reacted to this

Andyrt200 22 Report post Posted June 23, 2018 On 6/16/2018 at 9:58 PM, trenchy24 said: CHECK YOUR SILLS!!! (or don't and stay happy) Good call, I did & was happy to find I totally forgot the first thing I did when we got the 530 about 5 years ago was to pull the cover back & paint it. It was only Smooth Right & wax but it did a good job I’m doing all the jacking points now again with better stuff now but luckily there are no holes! On a totally different note, I made up new copper brake pipes for the rear but thought I’d get a proper BMW for the front right. I figured as it’s only short a pipe so a pre bent proper one should go in ok & it would match all the others where it went into the ABS unit. So I was a bit miffed to find I got a straight pipe that was a completely different colour to the others!
