525tds engine combined with 525iX?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Whilst I've been toying with whether to scrap or fix up my rusty old iX (see other post) someone was chatting about the possibility of switching the M50 block for the diesel version (M51?). Does anyone know if this has been done before and how effective, is it worth doing (mpg gain mostly)?

Regards

Will

For the sheer amount of work involved it simply wouldn't be worth it? The old TDS engines are not that economical to be honest.  Also the front driveshafts go via the oil sump on the petrol ix so a tds engine wouldn't work.

That said is the TDS not an m51 and based on the architecture of the m50 block. Is the sump is the same the ix sump could be used.

Interesting for sure and certainly unique perhaps not worth the effort but why not if it works!
