Ticked over 80000 miles today

Recommended Posts

I had to travel from Cheshire to Newport South Wales today and back - a 350 mile return journey.

At absolute pleasure in the 520d and feel as fresh as a daisy having spent 6 hours in the car - the optional Comfort Seats are just brilliant.

The car averaged an amazing 54 mpg on the journey and ticked over 80000 at Ross on Wye on the way home.

Filled up near Newport as fuel is 8 pence a litre cheaper than near Macclesfield and got off the M6 at Sandbach with the computer reading 160 miles travelled and 704 miles remaining in the tank - so a 864 potential range - average speed was 60mph. Just shows what great cruisers these cars can be. No stop/start or mild hybrid on my 2010 bus!!

Nice, it'd be interesting to know in 80,000 miles what wear and tear items (other than tyres) you've had to replace in that mileage?

Other than std servicing we have had the following in 8 years since being out of warranty:

1 set of front and rear brake pads

Replacement suspension airbags (one failed so replaced both)

Air conditioning condenser (hole in it)

New egr valve

Headlight control module

Gearbox oil service

Not bad really and cost wise certainly not worth running a warranty for.

I forgot that I had a new lower suspension arm fitted last December as there was play in it. Passed the MOT but was an advisory.

Rear shocks

Air bags

Coolant thermostat

Air suspension compressor, relay, and valve block.

No indeed, you've obviously not got a Friday afternoon car.

A quick tot up of costs since warranty outside of ordinary servicing shows a total spend of £1600 (parts and labour) which equates to £200 a year - cheap motoring for an express bus.
