Are they having a laugh?

Recommended Posts

My car continues to cause me problems, so looked around and found a specialist local to where I work. They quoted £65 for diagnostic, which I was ok with and they would collect and deliver the car. I told the service advisor not to present me with a list of stuff wrong with the car other than the lack of power issue as the car isn't worth alot. I know the brakes need doing and it's on the list for this weekend, but not convinced about the engine related stuff. Injector seals were done 2 weeks ago and the EGR 1 week ago. Not sure about the MAF but need to get the full diagnostic report off them as they haven't sent it.

Anyone else used Motorserv in Solihull?Screenshot_20210804-211310_Samsung Internet.jpgScreenshot_20210804-211329_Samsung Internet.jpgScreenshot_20210804-211339_Samsung Internet.jpg

Why not buy a c110 scanner or cable off jimmy and do your own diag?

clear codes then scan again as historic codes can lead you down false avenues.

yes they’ve pointed out flaws but is that not due diligence on their part? You don’t need to have them do the work?

As above

They're covering themselves just in case something happens

Sounds like the car needs work and wondering if it should be on the road with braking and tyre issues IMO

Brakes are perfectly fine and would pass mot with advisory. Tyre will be done as admittedly I hadn't realised it was that bad. Didn't ask them for a health check.

I have the cable and had cleared the codes but the problems remain and it still never puts the EML on. Was seeing if I was missing something. Think its going to be got rid of and replaced with something more reliable, never have another. Been nothing but trouble.

You could well be right, but there’s degree of ambiguity involved in the descriptions the garage have supplied that may suggest things are worse than they are...

The garage in question charge £15 for an MOT (“no pass - no fee!”). Those cheap MOT’s are normally anything but - they tend to suddenly turn up a load of work.that a standard £50 MOT would tend to pass. I tend to think these sort should of places are great for people who want to retain the value in a reasonably expensive car that is out of warranty and not on finance. I’ve no doubt that cars leave their workshops in tip-top condition, but at a price.

With the suggested value of the op’s car I’d be looking for an enthusiastic independent elsewhere.
