Great - buckled wheels

Recommended Posts

Front two on LCI M-sport Edition 530e.

BMW inspection says “pothole” and I can’t prove otherwise :(

No idea when it happened.

No wheel wobble or tracking issues.

Leasing company (for company car) says insurance job which I’m not prepared to do so £1,593 hit….for me.

That looks like a prime candidate for a repair rather than a replace. Find a reputable wheel refurbished and see what they say which hopefully is £200 rather than £1600. What a shame!

Hmm already changed with no offer/suggestions to repair…

I will take it up with Sytner next week (at Silverstone now).

Fortunately Cash not an issue in these times…

Ill try for some goodwill.

Didnt really know you could repair buckled alloys - tbf also never had one.

my 530e will be going back late on this year - normally they just do a quick visual check rather than a detailed inspection when collecting mine  - how did they spot this?

Had a vibration at 70 on my winters which I put down to balancing. Got the BMW Garage to look at it, they rebalanced but still there.
Further inspection I found a buckle on the inside about the same as yours. Not sure why the main dealer failed to spot it.
Anyway easily fixed at the local wheel specialist - they have a machine for it. Think it was about £50 to fix. As it was inside probably easier. Imagine yours would be much harder on the outside so replacement probably the only option.

Enjoy the GP! My last modern GP was in Austin, so quiet compared to the old days!

I think you’re correct - inner and outer rims affected.

For the non-experts amongst us, including myself, how can you tell from the picture that the wheel is buckled?

Thanks.

Thanks.

Just above the valve, the rim is ever so slightly out.

Just to add, I've just seen on old receipt from one of the works KIA ceeds that had a buckle done last year in Birmingham for £40.

Had a G21 320d m-sport pro on loan when my wheels were being replaced.

I was never impressed with the F30/1 quality wise from previous experience and was expecting more from the G20/1.

Well I have to say I was disappointed. Whilst quality is better than the previous generation  you can see where costs were saved against the G30/1 (or even the F10/1).

Touch points don’t compare to these models. Really plasticy switches and gear knob on the centre console for example.

It was also in “Subaru” blue which didn’t help the looks.

I feel lucky to only have “owned” 5 series models over the last 10 years.

Great to get back to my smooth, quiet, comfortable 530e.

I guess that I’m not the target market for the 3 series.

Completely agree, I’ve had a couple of G20s as courtesy cars, and some other models, nothing comes close to the G30 for me, apart from my old E39.

Not just cabin quality but road noise too.
I see a lot of folks complaining about RFT and standard suspension which mines has, I would say it must be absolutely amazing on VD and / or non RFT

Agreed, I had a G20 loaner a few months back. I seriously thought I might look at one to replace my G31 in a years time. But the cabin quality was a real let down. I’m not a huge fan of the latest digital dash either. The pre LCI dash is less cluttered and more elegant.
I could only see myself upgrading to a newer G30/31 in the future.

Ditto.

We considered getting a 3 series last time as there’s only the 2 of us and they’re still large cars but comparing them it was clear that the 3 is aimed at a different market. Noticeably less ‘luxurious’ and plasticky all round and a bumpier ride though from a driving point of view brisker, sharper and (I thought) stuck to the road better. We felt though that for the extra money the 5 was in a different league and now that we have the G31 I must say I’ve actually used the load space more than I’d expected!

I’m glad that it wasn’t just me then…..

Thought I must be missing something - but I suppose you just get used to “better quality” (didn’t mean to offend any G20/21 owners!)

Not looking forward to the day I have to downsize (although my wife’s C350e is more than acceptable!)

I honestly think my first 330i E46 was better quality inside than the G20. No fancy gimmicks and less stylish but it felt more solid and plush. I get that they’re offering way more car and technology nowadays, but they need to keep the quality high or risk losing out to the new kids on the block……Genesis G70 Shooting Brake anyone???

Problem is people buy brands.

Genesis is an extremely good car (Stinger underneath) BUT it will depreciate like a 7 series…(or a V8 5 series).

I hope so! Could be a bargain nearly new.

the Genesis winged logo resembles the Bentley logo which is no modernist abstraction.. Its supposed to be an ancient occult emblem showing the winged sun, symbolizing divinity, royalty, and power

So yeah on the steering wheel it looks good - a discount Bentley offshoot perhaps

Indeed, but I love the badge snobs as it keeps these Korean marques well priced, we have 2 Picanto's and an i20 in the family and they've been faultless, unlike the BMW's Audi's I've had.

I would like to try a Stinger gts but I'm slightly put off @ the 6k oil services, the spec is excellent and they get shift on.

I have 9 Cee'd 3 estate auto's at work and other than servicing they have had nothing done to them over the last 2 years and 540k miles.

4 of my relatives have Kia’s - not a problem between them

EV6 looks VERY interesting (better than the Ioniq5).

There are not in the same price bracket. I get pickup from time to time by hotel chauffeurs in 7 series and i find there is a similar gap with 5 in terms of luxury / quality
