Starting Problem 1975 520i

Recommended Posts

Hello, I am having a problem with starting the car. Its starts very well and as long as hold the key in the position back from the starter engagement it runs very well.  But upon releasing the key it stops immediately. Sometimes it starts and runs just fine by reving up a bit, but the aforementioned problem occurs regularly and maybe more when it's cold out.  Any ideas suggestions would be welcomed. Thank you in advance.  I also continue to have a problem with the alternator light coming on very dimly when it does idle. Checking the voltage when the car is off I get 12.6 volts, when idling I get 13.8 to 14 at the battery.   Could the two issues be related?

Any ideas suggestions would be welcomed. Thank you in advance.

Welcome to the forums :)

This is just general chat, so it's lost in here

Seeing as the issue seems to relate to the ignition switch have you tried a replacement or by-passing it?
