E61 rear suspension sagging

Recommended Posts

Hi folks, so had an issue where rear compressor was running each time got into the car when I bought it.  So found an issue with one of the airbags, so a new set were bought and both changed.  Then the car would be sagging after a few days of being parked up, used leak detector and small leak at one of the fittings.  Tightened up no more bubbles.  So now tonight out to car after being parked for a couple of days, car didn’t look to be down but compressor running when I got in tonight.  Any idea what else could cause it?

I’ve seen pointers to the filter is this a possible area that could cause it?

when I filled the tank on Saturday I did hear it kick in once I’d filled up which you could expect after the weight of 60 litres being added, only done 16 miles since filling up so possibly the reason.

Any  thoughts on what to try next?

think I will get it up in the air and try leak detector again.

No errors coming up.

I had this with mine, in the end I had to trim the pipes

I cut the oe pipe just after the lump/stop on the airline

Re-fitted & tightened up & all good since.

The olives that bite into the airline need the airline to be unused & uncrushed

It may look ok but it's not,  trust me.

Good man, thanks I will give it a try.  Did you use leak detector were you able to see any signs of air?

Did you redo the four points in red where the screw connections are made?C79551B8-33F3-4A0E-A3A3-07ADB9670923.thumb.jpeg.9bd65e73df8cb7c25b69bd81d58961d4.jpeg

It can’t be much as it’s not moving much.

Just don’t want it fully compressing the new bags, would take a while to sit right down.

Yes mate, all four point's

No leak detector used as mine would go fully flat over night

& as I'd fitted new Arnott bags & a new compressor it was all it could be.

Good stuff glad you got it sorted, I got the aerosus ones on mine.  Comes up fine so has to be the screw fittings..

Expect up to 10 seconds each morning for the pump, that's nothing to worry about.

Excellent thanks for that.  Yes doesnt seem to be much at all.

I measured it last night and it was 65.2mm on drivers side, checked again the now and its around 65.0mm not much change.  What i did notice though was that the passenger side was 67mm should they both be exactly the same?  Possibly need to adjust with ISTA?  Ground is level where the car is sitting.

Thats me checked again today so thats 60hrs since it moved and its still measuring 65,2mm on the drivers side and 67mm on passenger.

Dont suppose anyone could measure theirs on the flat and tell me what you get so i know which value to use.  Think im going to have to adjust via ISTA as car does catch on our drive so maybe worth raising it slightly.

ISTA tells you what height it should be depending on wheel size and how to measure it m8, text search "ride height" and it will tell you.

Perfect, thanks for that.  Yes of course im currently running with 17" winters so it will adjust the values for that.  Good i will take a run through and see what it says.
