DPF, EGR, LAMBDA probe.

Hello, Seeking some advice please. 
I have a 2016 520d. auto. Owned it for just over a year. Recently when cruising at around 70-80mph revs are roughly 1600- 1900. When I lightly come off the throttle it feels as though the engine is fluttering. 
I had my m.o.t. done at a German Car Specialist. With no failures, It needed a new air intake pipe. Had this replaced two weeks later and a diagnostics check carried out. It came back showing DPF, EGR and LAMBDA probe showing as faulty. However it passed the m.o.t. ??

The garage cleared the faults off, however the fault seems to be worse and fault light comes on with a loss of power as well for a short period.
According to the garage and my local dealer no recall for my car. However I’ve checked on a couple of sites on the net and the EGR is on recall for my car. Checked it against the chassis number. The car has only covered 37000.mls.
Can anyone suggest the best way forward. I have it booked into a Dealer for a “health check” on Tuesday.

Sounds like to me that the car is regenerating the DPF. You need to get the car properly diagnosed with fault codes read and at a garage who knows what they are doing!

Well the EGR recall will probably be the EGR cooler recall... well known and covers a massive range of models. Free of charge job.

If you have a problem after having work done and a collection of 'related' faults appear, I'd firstly be looking to see if something's been left unplugged.

What exactly were the fault codes? Remember that a code doesn't necessarily mean a fault or failure... many refer to information for the advice of the service dept.

Garage did not give me the codes. Fluttering is getting worse so the car has gone into my local BMW Dealership for a diagnostic test this morning.

Well BMW replaced the EGR valve  at full price. Despite the car being four years old and only 37000 miles on. Leaves a bitter taste in the mouth. Any idea how long it takes to change a EGR valve....?.

Its probably 2hrs labour at a guess. I bet that was an expensive job. EGR must be around £500 for part alone...

Egr is about 175-200 depends on dealer and if they put 2 hour labour whole bill in my opinion shouldnt be more than 500

My F10 520d was built in March 2016 reg in June. It was almost the last one or two months production batch of the F10. Had similar issue at arount 25k miles. EGR valve replaced under warranty. However, it was also subject to the EGR cooler recall. Unless yours has already had the recall done (maybe with previous owner), otherwise, I'm a bit suprised to know that it's built in 2016 but not in the recall list.

 

When I discussed this with the service man at dealer expressing my concern of the short life of EGR valve, he told me BMW noticed the issue and redesign the EGR valve and release some new firmware around this. Thus, the life should be longer now. realoem seems support such claim of redesign of EGR valve. Later when I had the recall, it's the same person served me at the dealer. He told me the recall would have whole high pressure EGR module (cooler, valve, pipe) replaced, check for damage to the manifold (replace if found), and update to firmware. And, he actually remembered my warranty case and told me that I now have two new valve in less than 3 months so I shouldn't worry too much now.

 

Anyway, the car is about 70k miles now. It seems to be ok so far. No one can promise the future though. But, the £425 bill doesn't sound too bad, does it?

Was that with any goodwill / negotiation? Both EGR and cooler are known issues. I would be putting an e-mail into BMW UK Customer Services, along with a copy of your most recent invoice, appealing to their better side.

£425? Ouch. 

 

It takes around 15-20 mins to swap the EGR on the B47. 

 

I paid £163 for the EGR including vat and bought these.....

It is 3 screws, it lifts out and new one slots in, do screws back up. 

 

 

BMW should be replacing all these free of charge, they are faulty. 10,000s failing. 

 

 

(If you are taking old one out and having to put it back in, because you are looking at it, you might need diag tool to close it up so the valve doesn't bend. If putting in new you are fine.)

 

 

I know I just put this in the other thread too, but seems to be cropping up more and more so posting it again for reference if people search.

I thought you need diagnosis to close the valve especially if its new? Don't you also need to reset the emission values once replaced?
