E28 Front Seat Belt Buckles

Recommended Posts

Hi adragonr,

IIRC there are different seat belt receivers based on the age of your car for comfort seats not just between sport and comfort.

Try a search on RealOEM using your VIN number to see what it throws up.

I think the size of the tang on the belt buckle may be smaller on earlier cars and not interchange with the latter belt buckle.

Quick check of RealOEM brings up the following:

Cars with comfort seats up to 09/1986:

Safety belt front 4-door

Notes

These parts are not interchangeable:

Lower strap, front 72.11.1.952.016 (up to 09/1986) Superseded by:  72.11.1.941.557  (04/01/1986 — ), nonexchangeable retrospectively

I had some fun when trying to replace the worn out seat belt buckles on my 1985 Zobelbraun 525e back in 2017.      I ended up having to retrospectively upgrade to the latter front seat belt system (item 2 left, item 2 right and two items 3) as not all of the earlier system was available.

Hope this helps you with your issue.

Stay safe and best regards,

Mick

Thank you very much for this.

Very helpful.....and frustrating from BMW.

Hmmm, I borrowed my originals for my E21.  So I may try and get some E30 ones for the E21 and put the original units back in the E28.  Assuming it will all fit.

The source is most likely not critical, as long as you have a belt & buckle that are a matched set in good condition and therefore safe.

Best regards,

Mick
