Looking for a valuation, rare 530i Sport Manual

Recommended Posts

Well, struggling here. I have a very well loved and cherished 530i coming up for grabs shortly. Given the fact there's not many manual gearbox equipped cars around these days and due to the age of the car i cant get an online price and hoping someone can help. I've owned this for 10 years and loved every minute of it. I've spent thousands over the years, currently sitting at 152k and still running terrific. Recent full service, waterpump, spark plugs, filters and O2 sensors. Last year diff rebuild, power steering rack, starter motor and alternator. Bodywork has been attended to in the last few years but will need a wee bit again soon. Over the years various small sensors, ABS pump rebuild by BBA reman and general wear and tear all attended to, it's wanted for nothing. But its time for a change, will only be advertsing it on here first as would like it to go to en enthusiast. will also be including the original wheels and tyres, anyway, here's some pics if anyone can give an idea of value..

thanks (sorry for posting on this forum but can seem to process gold membership)

Looks well looked after, but the body work would be a concern to potential buyers IMO and that’s just what can be seen.

Do you know condition the jacking points are in etc and also the rear subframe? Is there any suspension or cooling system work needed?

Its a manual & not many of them crop up, IMO, I’d say c£2k would be a fair asking price, mainly down to the body work that would need sorting and also an interior tidy up etc

The jacking points were attended to along with a few small welds on the floor pan, floor area was also treated and cleaned up. o/s/f wing was replaced, n/s painted again as not bad, both sills were painted and inner sills done. rear wheel arch lips were done too but could with a decent body shop visit again. So no major work required. No subframe rot, when front and rear bumpers were off absolutely no rust in there. Very solid car all round in general and just minor cosmetic stuff now. Interior wise seats could probably do with a good clean, rest of the interior is immaculate apart from slight wear on driver seat upper bolster. Absolutely no suspension work or cooling work required, not a clunk to be heard (apart from a slight undertray plastic rattle type noise on rough surfaces)

How long MOT? Minus is bodywork and interior. Leather seats are looking much better in my opinion, plus if you have heated ones that's another plus. Aftermarket single din doesn't look great as well. I would say 1.5 -2k would be max you can get with decent MOT. About manual transmission that's another thing which is based on personal taste, some like these big cruisers to be as comfortable as possible, so they prefer automatic transmission. Can't really say it's that big plus. M sport package is playing bigger role I would say.

MOT till may, only advisory last year was number plate light :-)  The stereo was an early change, as original audio had failed but has ipod connectivity in glovebox, plus the audio controls on steering wheel still work with it which is a bonus. had the alpine head unit and 320w sub tidily installed and with the standard 10 speaker set up sounds awesome, really  nice crisp sound. yeah i was hoping to go past the 2k barrier as drives superb, unmodified and never abused. Whoever gets it next will just have a bit of paintwork to deal with, hell i might even get it done myself if i have the time to increase the value

Get fresh MOT on it, 3 months MOT won't help you sell it.

The M badge deffo needs removing @Mr C ;) It’s a Sport, not an M Sport (that was E60 onwards here in Blighty) :)

The stuff mentioned like seats, stereo and wheels etc are all personal taste and can be changed if the new owner wants to; there are so many folk that break these cars now, stuff is easy to get hold of (bar heated seats as they tend to not crop up that often).

I agree with @Ray112 that stick 12 months MOT on it and then advertise for £2k (IMO stick it back on the Style 66s) and take the best offer.

Have to agree I'd say £1750 - £2000;  that rusty sill will put a lot of people off I'd say.  Personally I like the alcantara interior but most prefer leather so again that's not a plus point to buyers.  And def get 12 mths MoT on it.

You & me both; makes life so much easier just hoovering the seats rather then cleaning & conditioning them ;)

Warm in the winter, cool in the summer

I'd remove the headlamp eyebrows and M badges (boot lid, grille, passenger interior trim), reinstall the OEM alloys, and get a 12 months MOT on it to get as much attention as possible especially amongst the E39/BMW enthusiasts. It's not a bad car really...it's a 530i manual. A lot of people will be interested in that, but not everyone due to the nature of the E39. Rare interior, but needs some TLC. Shame they aren't heated. However, it is a fairly clean car, inside and out. just missing two main tools in the toolbox and the bolt covers for the engine covers.

There's a 530i sport with identical spec to yours on eBay going for £2k. Bodywork is worse than yours but it has below 100k miles on the odometer and it's an auto. 530i in general range between £1800 and £3500. I'd say yours can be valued between £1900 - £2500.
