Are CIC Idrive controllers interchangeable?

Recommended Posts

My 2011 520d F11 has an (almost) dead CIC iDrive controller. 75% of it doesn't work. My fault entirely (liquid damage). The part number on it it 6582 9206444-01 .

I can get a working replacement on eBay for a decent price but the part number is different. 6582 9286699-03. It's from a 2015 F10/F11.

Logicially I think these should be interchangeable (same car, both CIC). But where does being logical get you? Does anyone know if I can use 6582 9286699-03 in place of my 6582 9206444-01 please?

Controller history lesson:

2010 - 2012/07= HU-CIC

2012/07 - 2017 = HU-NBT

The controller on CIC equipped cars was updated in 09/2011 from 65829206444 (yours) to 65829267955. (Both looked identical)

Controller: 65829286699 was introduced late in 2012 when NBT headunits were introduced and this controller was for the Business-Nav and not Pro-Nav equipped cars. The Touchpad controller was introduced on the NBT Pro-Nav head units.

According to REALOEM you can either use 65829206444 or 65829267955 but I'd be inclined to stay with an exact match to avoid any compatibility issues.

Awesome, thanks. I like a good history lesson. The connector on that other unit was totally different - 4 pins vs mine which is about 10. I'll see what's available at a decent price. There's no major rush to sort (first time in years I've used voice commands on the car so much!!!!)

Actually, i can't see how 65829267955 would be compatible because it's a 4 pin connector and I need a 10 pin connector. The hunt goes on....

Nothing like seeing the real thing. REALOEM says retrospectively interchangeable but obviously not.
