E39 interior choices.

Recommended Posts

In my e39 523i SE was a standard black cloth interior. In very good condition but I fancied leather so I sourced a black leather SE interior, seats and door cards, from eBay. I swapped them over so now have a spare cloth interior that I've advertised on eBay, but nobody seems to want, destined to go anytime soon to the tip.

I'm very pleased with the black leather and in my anthracite car it looks good. But, the BIG but, it doesn't have the WOW factor that some Individual interiors have. So I'm waiting until something appears for sale on eBay. With anthracite paintwork almost anything goes so I've very much an open mind as to what to go with.

What interiors do people have here that make statements on individual taste ?

Mines got Alcantara; fairly far & few between in E39s, usually on imports (like mine)

I actually prefer it to leather TBH; both previous E39s were leather and I don't miss the cleaning/conditioning aspect of it, it's just a quick hoover now ;)

I'd love to have heated seats though and I'm currently thinking of getting a spare set of aluminium interior trim hydro-dipped to a different finish, but not sure on what (quite fancying a black birch finish or similar)

You're correct, an all black interior is never going to look special, even in a brand new car.

You need a bit of colour.

I used to love my interior when I had my E39.

It started off as all beige when I bought it but I quickly grew to dislike it as there was too much beige.

I took the Champagne edition as my inspiration and set about transforming it.

I bought some second hand black door cards from Ebay and transferred the beige inner panels from the existing cards.

I sourced a second hand black dash top, also from Ebay along with a black carpet.

I bought all brand new oem plastics for the interior and the seats.

I bought the rare Poplar interior trims from a fellow forum member.

I had the gearlever re-trimmed and a new gaiter made by forum sponsor Bespoke Leathering.

Finally i retrofitted oem seat heating to the existing seats.

I reckon mine fits that bill:-

Much more lairy in photos than in real life.

I think it goes very nicely with the exterior too:-

It is rather lovely, but weirdly the specification wasn't a customers choice - it was the Sytner demonstrator for 2001, and ended up being the last rhd B10 V8 Touring - later cars were B10 V8S cars.

For info, in right hand drive for the UK, there were eight pre-facelift B10 V8 Tourings, four facelift B10 V8 Tourings and four B10 V8S Tourings, so not very many to choose from. It listed in 2001 at £56,950 when a 540i Touring was £42,500 and an M5 was £52,000; my demonstrator though, with all the Individual stuff plus M5 mirrors, full Nav, 19" wheels and some other choice goodies, was listed at £74,000.

I bought Poplar for mine - but then decided it didn’t go with my alcantara wheel so went back to technical graphite.

Hi,

Theres some fantastic looking combinations above and also on threads across various forums including here that have come up over the years. Like you I have a full black leather interior and black dash pieces as well as the Rare High Gloss Black trim set. My headliner is standard beige, but I have a black Sport headliner in my goodies storage. I don't mind the all black look as it contrasts very well against the White paint of the car. I am 'most likely' going to add  splash of colour and my first choice is Red! it's a tried and test combo, but Red/Black just works! A forum member here who doesn't post anymore put this picture up and I've kept it as I think it looks fantastic

E39%20Interior%20Red%20Trim%202_zpsvjt5q

I think he did red in a material that was 'like' alcantara and much cheaper..

If I don't go with 'colour' I have my High Gloss Black set and will have one of the higher end polishing specialists I know go over the set by first adding more layers of lacquer and then polishing. I do have 3 more sets of High Gloss Black (I think! I need to check my goodies storage to be sure!) a set of the rare High Gloss Grey and a couple sets of the Ultra rare, almost Unobtanium Birch Anthracite along with a Club Bruyere from an M5. I might rotate sets to see which I like best !

I've never been a fan of the Natrel Poplar but it does make for something a bit different. The one set I really would like to get is Arizona Sun in Right hand Drive of course, only ever seen a couple sets !

Cheers, Dennis!

There was an OEM leather trim option - I've only ever seen one set in right hand drive and it was snapped up and re-dyed to another car - I think a forum member bought and fitted it.

I've always sad this about that car Dave, it always looks really very nice in all the photographs... but it's simply stunning in the flesh, simply stunning.

Just needs to be driven more ;)

Thanks very much for that Kevin. Agree it is difficult to do these colours justice in a photograph and it always looks better in real life. And of course you are correct I should drive it more!

how much for the set? and is poplar the same as birch ?

Well they owe me £165 delivered.
There are a few small marks & cracks but basically very presentable.
Happy to supply close up photos if genuinely interested.

I could’nt say, I’m sure Dennis will know?

Hi,

Esthero - Natural Poplar is the wood effect with the yellow colour that LukeH shows in his earlier picture.

Birch Anthracite is a dark slightly lighter than black, hence 'Anthracite' name and is a 'swirl' pattern wood with very subtle shades/flecks of gold. These trim sets are extremely rare to find and many E39 owners really want a set.

LukeH - I've personally not liked the Natural Poplar trim sets, else I'd have purchased your set! I'm sure those who do like it and want more of the Champagne Edition look in their interiors will purchase from you though ! GLWTS

Cheers, Dennis!

There is Birch Anthracite in my Alpina Touring pictured above...

Rarer still is the Blue Anthracite trim; I've only ever seen one set in a right hand drive car.
