Diamond button on Key Fob

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have just purchased a 2013 BMW 530d Touring M Sport, it has two keys with the diamond button at the bottom.

From what I can understand this is either a "Panic Alarm" button if fitted, I tried pressing for some time it didnt do anything, or it can be programmed to perform a specific command.

With the programming is it something you can do via I drive?

Thanks
Andy

If my memory serves me correctly, holding that button popped open the tailgate with the button above it opening the tailgate glass hatch. Maybe post this in the F10/11 section to get more current feedback.

Having just gone and checked again, strange it now puts the lights on!

So that's headlights, taillights and door handle puddle lights.

I will investigate further in the I drive menu to see if it can be changed.

@percha

  • Short press of the diamond button on keyfob turns on the headlights (feature called "Welcome light", if memory serves me well) - this helps to easier find your car in a parking lot in the dark, and also is useful if car is located in your driveway - you can use this to illuminate the road when walking to car.
  • Long press supposedly pops open a glass portion of the trunk lid on the Touring models. Long press seems to do nothing on my F10 sedan.

Some people have said that long press of diamond button activates a car alarm (called "Panic mode"), this seems to be optional feature, not available in all regions or models, and it seems to be contradicting with Touring hatch feature.
Also function of this button on keyfob supposedly can be configured via the software (either specialised BMW service app,  or consumer apps like iCarly or Bimmercode).

Thanks all for the replies, I will check the I-drive.

At the moment it only seems to do "Welcome" home lights, I already have a button for rear tail glass on the button.
