Carbon black 535d

Recommended Posts

Hi folks!

Firstly, what an excellent forum, been 110%, , thanks to all that have chipped in to my queries, nice to come to a helpful place after minitorque!

So this is my first ever barge of a car! Hot hatches has always been my thing, from nova 1.3sr, 205 gti’s (. 1.6/1.9/mi16 on carbs ) clio mk1 16v/Williams/172 cup, mr2 turbo, sapphire cosworth, Megane r26, Mini Cooper r53, all have been modified, . So getting a bmw 5 series was a fair bit away from the norm.

ive always liked them since day one, and have finally got the age, where I probably look normal in one haha, so got myself a completely standard, carbon black 535d with 92k on the clock, been under bmw warranty till December 2017, then specialists etc etc.

im doing this thread as a way for me to keep track of what I’ve done to the car, it will just be the usual stuff.

i’ll get some pics and updates up, just wanted to fire this thread up whilst I had a sec.

cheers

Bill

first job was to remove the M badge off the boot, i intended to remove the 535d badge also, but never got round to it, and actually quite like it, so its staying for now.

Next i put some mtec 15mm spacers on the rear, much better!

New kidney grills.

Swirl flaps removed.

Phone cradle removed.

New centre caps for after the wheel refurb.

Next purchase will be some winter wheels/rubber.

Nice one. Those winters are gonna spoil that car after those gorgeous spyders but then I am slightly biased. :D

Did you do the swirl flap removal yourself? What did you think of it 1-10? Hard, easy.....and your ability......you a home diyer or pro mechanic or something in between??

where did you get the blanks and how much? Did you need to replace any manifold rubbers or gaskets?

your right the winter wheels wont be doing it any favours in the looks department! but my mrs will be using this car for work 3 days a week, so can't afford to get caught out in the bad weather.

As for me being any kind of mechanic .

unfortunately this i am not! changing a set of wheels is about the limit of my skills. one of my mates is very handy, he works at a local garage, so he does most of my work for me, he did the swirl flaps, i asked if it was a pain in the ass to do, he said no not really, no gaskets/rubbers where changed as i didn't supply any, just the swirl flaps.

i ordered them through pmw

https://www.pmwltd.co.uk/products/32mm-blanking-plates

i rang up to order as they do 2 sizes, they sent me both sizes, and i sent back the ones i didn't need, got a refund, you have 28 days to return them
