F11 Air suspension broken

Recommended Posts

Hi i have tried searching but have been unsuccessful,

i have a 2013 f11 520d and the rear suspension is sitting very low, i can hear the air compressor pumping but the car is not going up.

I have tried looking at the balloons which seem ok.

Where do i start with trying to fault find ?

Any help would be much appreciated.

There are plenty of posts detailing all sorts of rear suspension issues. You can only check the air springs if the car is jacked up which will fully extend the springs and this is when any damage will be visible. The system consists of the air springs, the pipes back to the compressor, the solenoid distribution valve (attached to the compressor), the compressor, the control module and the ride height sensors. This is where you need to look or as Dave says get it in to a BMW specialist to diagnose.

Get it jacked up, rear wheels dangling, check for degradation at the tops of the airbags.

If you can, move the rear axle level sensor to mimic a heavy load and cause the compressor to inflate the airbags to allow physical checking of leaks.

Best way Paul. So many people buy BMW's, then sod around with them by slowly replacing bits hoping that eventually they will stumble upon the fault/fix. Keep us updated

Bloody RAC warranty wont cover it as the car has done 88k and its the expected life of the pump, I've been quoted £1400 for the garage to do it.

I will try and do it myself as i cant afford that much,

Are the Aerosus pumps ok to replace it with as its quick a lot cheaper, they say its the compressor pump that broken and needs replacing.

It was a main dealer price using genuine parts, I have found a seal kit on ebay which i am going to try, If that don't work i will get a aerosus pump which is £300. Then hopefully i should be sorted £1100 cheaper
