ULEZ Now Effective

The actual answer is: it's ring-fenced to TfL. To fund upgrades for TFL's bus, tube, bicycle and rail - to be lower carbon.

Well if that's the case, I'm happy with that.

Resurrecting this thread, this morning I heard some happy clappy LEZ advert on one of the London radio stations.

It cheerfully reminded all those with cars that didn't meet requirements that it would cost them 12 quid a day to keep their cars on the road. All done to the background of fluffy muzak!

What are people supposed to do who really can't afford either a newer car, or the £12per day (well over £3k per year) charge?

It's really beyond me...

I live just (very much just) outside the M25 and save for an occasional nose around Brooklands I never venture inside the M25. I guess I'm lucky I don't have to but I really don't want to either.

Simples, buy one of these.

It's ULEZ compliant and can be had for not a lot!

Why drive a hateful Prius or some horrible Vauxhall when you can smoke around London in a V8 BMW?

Only LEZ complaint, £12.50 to get into the ULEZ.

Why not ULEZ? Age of the vehicle? Just curious...

 Based on emissions I think.

ULEZ is Central London, and a petrol car must meet Euro 4.

LEZ is Greater London, must be tighter restrictions in Central London than the outskirts I guess. I can't find the LEZ requirements.

As i am ultra paranoid i have just called and they have said my car is exempt even though i've stated it's a 05 diesel, also online i cant even pay the £12.

This is all well and good but months down the line if i get a fine how do i prove all of this?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.
