Older BMW Prices going nuts!

Recommended Posts

Looking at ebay just now some mental prices fro E30s and E34s .. even E36s are expensively priced

E34s .. 520s .. 4995 , ropey looking 535i for 18000, 535i for 5995 .. and I am sure there is a Hartge import going about that's 49000!!!!

E30s of 325i flavour are in 5 figures .. great if it happens but I fear most of these cars have been for sale for a long time ( or will be )

All classic car prices have taken a hike .. Ford RS Escorts are making ( and selling too ) for HUUUGGGE sums ...basket cases are starting over 5grand now ..... if only we knew then .....

Oh yeah tell me about it.......

The cars that I got shot of 5-10 years ago are now worth literally at least 10x what I sold them for...... hindsight is a wonderful thing ;)

Thing is, how many of them are actually selling at those inflated prices? Yes like you say you have 520s advertised for 5k but will they ever sell for that money.... Or how many months or possibly years are the vendors will to sit on them til they eventually sell.....

I saw an E36 328i Sport touring auto with 90k miles for £10000 the other day - yes it's a rare car but that is double the last one I saw and more than double a 323i Sport touring with less miles I was looking at earlier this year.

Judging by the E36 M3 prices I am hoping my 328i Sport manual vert with 84k miles is now worth something way more than I paid for it 5 years ago!

I cannot see the desirability personally of owning a classic BMW with a smaller engine for the amount of miles you do and the desirability come sale time. You see four pot E30/36 for silly money!

Are they actually selling though?  I think some people put their cars on sale with inflated prices, hoping someone will come along and buy them.  If nobody does, they hang on to their car and enjoy it.  I have lots of things I wouldn't offer for sale, but there's a price for everything in the end!

There are still some decent E34s out there for not much cash - THIS one for example.  Nice 525i, 108k, full MOT, under £1800.

Some mad prices out there and covering a huge range. I tend to follow E39 prices, purely out of interest (sometimes amusement) and what I see is that some of the higher priced 540s and M5s have been advertised for months, literally.

Way beyond book price now, it's what someone's prepared to pay, simple as...

Maybe I'm a prime example there - paid what some might think was a shed-load for my 540, but to me it was worth it and all that mattered.

More powerful maybe - Better?  No!  The one you have with a 2.5 M50 would be perfect!

That red 525 on ebay is far from a good one. Scabby arches, dull painted bumpers, poorly colour matched sills, scabby door bottoms and not to mention it's a slush box. Price is fair however if prepared to haggle.

There's a big divide on e34's IMO. Some decent 518's, 520's & 525's about for less than a couple of grand in SE form and mainly auto's, however a good manual 525 Sport will be double that and then some, 535 Sports a little more and then you're looking at a good chunk more for a decent Alpina or M5.

The sweet spot for me would be a Manual 535 Sport or Manual Alpina B3.5, plenty of go and the big M30 is bullet proof if serviced regularly without the worrying costs and potential big bills of M5 ownership.

I completely agree about the M30 but I'm sure you mean a B10 3.5 as there is no difference whatsoever between the engines of a 535i and a B3.5, but any kind of E34 540i (with decent manuals so very rare now) is also a fine beast.

Some of them more than months Keith.

There are E39s still up for sale that we’re there when I was looking to buy my previous 530i, early 2017!

Stupid that the seller cannot see that they’re never going to get the price they’re asking

Agreed. Can't believe I failed to mention the V8's. ;)

There is fantasy price from dreamers. Too many people are jumping on the the modern classic horse.

The horse will run out of puff.

These cars are not selling. Ditto Porsche prices.
