makeshiftuk 52 Report post Posted July 9, 2018 (edited) ...is 200k miles old! 16 years since she left the production line (and the last 4 years in my care), and she still looks great on our roads. Some bodywork/rust challenges to sort, but what a machine... Long live the M54B30!! amazighman 65 Report post Posted July 10, 2018 Mileage is just numbers, maintenance and care is what counts and engines can do very high miles. If you go to States or Australia hyper mileage cars are very common..500k plus easily

Dont worry i am impressed and always appreciate when people keep their cars on the road up to these high mileages while others deem them fit for scrap at 100k
makeshiftuk 52 Report post Posted July 11, 2018 Thanks for all the kind comments... ...will revive this thread when I'm at 300k!!! Might be a few years though...
Tuvoc 361 Report post Posted July 13, 2018 Yeah the M50 engine in my previous car was still sweet at close to 200k miles when I scrapped it because of rust and a very worn autobox. I'm not so sure that the M54 is as long lasting and bulletproof as the M50, but yours has certainly done fine so far ! Mine is at 144k. It is a bit noisy at idle, but once past about 1,000 rpm is sweet and quiet and sounds gorgeous when revved. With the Vanos rebuilt, new DISA valve and all the CCV stuff replaced, I don't see why it won't do another 144k but I won't see that myself.
chicaneuk 265 Report post Posted July 13, 2018 These things are just tremendous. Every time I come out to my dirty, leggy old 530d, it puts a smile on my face. The looks, the practicality, the comfort.. they genuinely are one of the best cars ever made, no doubt about it. Here's to another 100K+ on your super looking touring! 1 TerryTibbs reacted to this
duncan-uk 2,901 Report post Posted July 13, 2018 Mine after 900 miles non stop to the south of France last year I was pooped but no aches or pains. 2 GStarrr and Marc_C reacted to this
TerryTibbs 51 Report post Posted July 13, 2018 Well it’s almost ‘run in’ now, Mine hit 170k a few weeks back , owned it for almost 3 n half years and it’s still a pleasure to drive, it’s going to take me another 5 years to get to 200k and I’ve no urge to replace it, we (wife n skids) are off to Bridlington tomorrow, bout 160 mile round trip and I’ve recently run some very impressive fuel additive thru it and I’ll reset my mpg before setting off to see what I can get, I’ve managed 56mpg on previous trips! Huff 43 Report post Posted July 14, 2018 ... and what some colleagues waste on monthlies on ghastly little shoeboxes they don't actually own, even actively dislike, is > twice what it takes to keep this in good tyres, good service, preventative maintainence + and min 98 octane... ad touring 17 Report post Posted July 22, 2018 seeing nice round numbers on odometers makes me smile, gland to see others are appreciating it! I took a specially calculated route back from picking up my girlfriend from a railway station just to park my 530D on the drive on exactly 200K was very annoyed when I missed 222222 with a miss calculation , i'd even reset the trip meter to get 222222 222.2 in recent weeks I've had the 530d parked on the drive on 230K exactly and the b10v8 on 140k exactly, not quite at the same time though, that would be satisfying...
