Wireless Phone Charging

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

Has anyone had any issues with the wireless pohone charging tray?

The first few days of ownership mine worked fine, but now it is tempremental to say the least. when putting the phone in the tray it will initially start to charge then after a few seconds, stops and the amber light comes on.

Occasionally when the phone id placed in the tray it will work fine and charge but then as im driving about it stops again.

I dont beleive the issue is with my phone as it charges perfectly fine in the house.

I've never had a problem with mine, whether charging my iPhone 7 (with a wireless charging case), my wife's Samsung S7, or the display key.

Can I ask what phone it is ?

My phone is my company issues iPhone 5s with a QI case on it.

It charges perfectly fine at home so I don’t think it’s a case issue.

In that case are you able to use somebody else's phone to charge ?

Any of the newer Samsungs will have wireless charging.

That would then show if it's your phone or your car.

My brother in laws iPhone X worked perfectly fine.

Im now wondering if it’s my case, is it perhaps too thick? That manual says it shouldn’t be thicker than 2mm otherwise there may be issues.

Probably too thick or old QI tech

My Pixel XL2 charged fine on my sis in laws 530e (discovered by accident) and it’s in a Spigen Armor case (ie not a thin/flimsy case)

Sounds like you might have found your problem.

Mine is a bit temperamental on the home wireless charger.

I actually had put some cardboard on the charger to move the phone further away !

But no problems with the car.

I guess you get what you pay for with an EBay QI case.

Hired a fiesta this week. Brand new from avis... Anyway, it had wireless charging. Cleverly put in where you naturally throw your phone as you get in.

Shames BMW for asking 500 quid for a badly designed one!

That's interesting............why do you think it's badly designed on the new 5 ?

Never found it a problem - charges fine and stores the phone fine. I guess if you are trying to store your golf clubs wallet and house keys you might struggle to locate all of those in the charging point but BMW have thought of that and provide a boot (for the golf clubs) and storage between the seats for the rest........
