Project Lexus LS460 - SOLD

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Just thought i'd start a post on here to keep a log of the progress i make with my ''new to me'' Lexus LS460,

Here are some photo's taken from the sellers advert & some of it sat on my driveway.

Datasytems ASC-680 - This little gadget allows me to adjust the ride height of the factory air ride - And even been lowered on the 22s the ride is still very smooth.

The current plans are :

Debadge the Rear - Going to remove the 'Lexus' & 'LS460' badges but leaving the center L badge in place.
Fit some plain number plates - Number plates without the writing underneath

I think doing the two above mods should really tidy up the rear and make it look alot cleaner.

Once i've saved up over winter these mods will be on the cards :

Vertex Digna Front & Rear Lips,
DAR Roof & Boot Spoilers,
US Spec Front Wings - Deleting the side indicators,
New Wing Mirrors With Built-In Indicators,
Change The Rear Lights To The Red Versions,
Replace The Xenon Bulbs With Osram Night Breaker Unlimited Xenarc's,
HID Or LED Kit For The Front Fog Lights,
Change The Interior Lighting To LEDs,

Once the above is done i'll be saving again for some new wheels, Going to either be 21'' or 22''

HRE's Or Vossen wheels.

Id leave the wheels that are on it on there personally. And leave the wings be, why mess with factory paint for sake of indicators? Like ideas to smooth back out.

Why are you pulling a set of xenons to fit a set of osram halogen bulbs?

I would not change anything - accept the quality and originality of a high quality Japanese build.

Wheels will be one of the last things i change but here are a few reasons why i want to change them :

They'll need refurbing at some point,
Tyre will need to be changed,
Their not staggered - which they should be for this model,
I've already seen the wheels i want for it.

As for the front wings i shouldn't have any issues with the paint match or quality as i'll be using an approved Lexus bodyshop to fit the US Spec ones.

The Osram's are direct replacement xenon bulbs - The reason i'll be fitting these is that the current bulbs that are fitted are about 10years old so will have lost some of the Lumen output and i'll fitted some of Osram bulbs into my previous GS300 that had factory xenons and the light output substantially improved.

URQUATTRO -

I'd love to be able to leave a car standard but me being me i can't , just the way i am.

all that effort for small indicator bulbs? really? think you are wasting your money on that one.

So the osrams are a HID bulb then to replace a factory Xenon bulb yes?

Cant you just refurb the wheels and buy new tyres? which wheels you buying?

KJB1 -

Well after seeing the US spec LS460's which came without the side indicators from factory, i feel they have a cleaner line when looking at the side profile of the car which is one the reasons why i want to delete them, the other reason being that i'll be replacing the wing mirrors with versions that have built-in indicators so i can't see the point in having two side mounted indicators.

The Osrams are a direct replacement bulb (Xenon for Xenon).

Wheel & Tyre spec i'd be changing to would be :

Vossen VFS2 in Matte Bronze or Poilshed/Silver (Same wheel design as on this LS600HL But his ones are finished Gunmetal Grey - Also notice his front wings)
Front 22 X 9 - 255/30/22
Rear 22 x 10.5 - 305/25/22
14657435_342555306094659_201570584240085

This Grey Audi A7 has the same wheels (21'' Versions) but in the Matte Bronze finish.

Now you see them :

Now you don't :

10 Minutes work and their gone - Debadged the rear and i have to say it looks much cleaner from the rear now.

Up next is - Plain number plates (I don't do free advertisement)

Hi Piper

Its a Japanese 7-Series / S-Class

Its got all the modern tech on it such as lane assist, self parking, auto handbrake - but this had back in 2006.

The rear is a very nice place to be with its reclining seats - They can be even nicer if you find one that has the 'Rear Relaxation Package'

If your talking spec wise then the Lexus is better - I found that out when i was looking to change, that most of the E65 / F01 7s don't have much spec on then unless your looking at 750/760Li's.

Price wise an F01 will be newer (2009 / 2010) and the Lexus (2007/2008).

I find that with the Lexus your paying E65 7-Series money for F01 7-Series spec.

Only downside is that Lexus don't do Diesels - Petrol or Hybrid only.

Oh and you get Lexus reliability.

Fine car from a 20+ year Toyota fan, ok ours is only a Previa but what quality and reliability in 22 years of non stinting work, whatever the task, family transport, works van or just a general lugger of bits.

Really like the Lexus brand and particularly this top end saloon - great project.

had I not had the Alpina B10 and liked it so much then a look/see what around is possibility.
