What did you do to your F07/F10/F11 today?

Recommended Posts

I'll email autoglass.

It's obviously a weather seal that act as a barrier to the seal that the windscreen is stuck to.

It still makes contact to the roof, but the leading edge doesn't sit tight against the roof.

Its more cosmetic I would say, but water has a way.

Update: further research suggests this isnt integral to the windscreen installation and it to stop debris building up in the groove. I've gently pushed one side in a bit and fixed it, the other side isn't moving though. I wonder if it is even new. Doesn't look to be.

Ok so the part is 51317203121.

They included that in the listing of the work. Auto glass SKU is 2459ASMST. It is attached to the back of the windscreen and looks attached perfectly in line, it's just the rubber pulls back a fraction.

So the fix would be for them to pull the windscreen and start again by the looks of it. I presume with a chance of it looking the same still.

Update: Called. Someone from their warranty department will call back on 24hrs.

Interestingly the lady, without prompting, said it's purely cosmetic, but we will get warranty on the case.  I suspect for her to say this, it is a frequent complaint.

Failed on the rear speaker install, the adapter is not the right type for the F10 rear shelf, after putting it on, you can't get the speaker in the original holes without taking off the shelf first. They would go in the fronts but I already have the Match set waiting for the tweeter covers before I start the install.

Will send the rears back and order an exact plug n play set - any recommendations for coaxials, dont want to install separate tweeters and crossovers?

At nearly 11 years old and 79500 miles had the gearbox properly flushed and new oil and filter put in by a ZF specialists in Leek Staffs. Total bill £453 inc VAT.

How does it drive now? Did you have it done for a reason or just as a service?

Thanks mate, from the dirt being rubbed off i’m taking a stab in the dark and saying it was a van swiping it. Total speculation of course. Was even enough to turn the wheels as i left them straight.

We drove 222 miles from Maidstone all the way down to Totnes in Devon.  Crappy queue passed Stonehenge, won't be doing that on the way back

But my 520d is outstanding to drive, the engine is amazing.  190bhp in a heavy motor like this shines every drive.

Changes are smoother - it wasn't bad but had deteriorated slightly over time. You tend not to notice thought as can't remember what it was like 8 years ago when I got the car.

ZF recommend a service every 6 years or 60000 miles so was long overdue. I plan on keeping the car a while longer so it's a no brainer for me.

I'm doing this on a new to me e46 330ci next week, its on 88k and shifts fine but autoboxes give me the fear and have read horror stories so its off to Dartford Transmissions for their mega flush & filter change.

Supposed to get rid of 99.9% of old fluid.

Hoping its a worthwhile investment.

The 8 speed ZF gearbox holds 9.5 litres but they used 3 more litres in total flushing the box out. Apparently they said Volvo's can be bad using an additional 8 or 9 litres to flush properly on top of the fluid needed for the box.

At least they are recommending  a service now or does BMW still say "sealed for life"?

ZF recommend every 6 years or 60000 miles on their 8 speed gearboxes. I don't know what BMW say these days but as ZF are the manufacturers I prefer to take their word for it.

BMW still maintain the gearbox is “filled” for life. ZF say something different though recommending circa 60k mile oil and filter changes.

After sitting in the garage for a month, took the F11 on a trip to Liverpool, Chester and Bangor. Not a mega trip at 300 miles but it was a joy. I've had it for 6 years and it still impresses.

Driving up to Newcastle tomorrow. I'll have to watch my speed as I got a ticket driving up the A1 in North Yorkshire. They still use traditional speed enforcement with  in my case,  a cop sat on a bridge zapping cars.

Changed the brake fluid today, nice easy job with a sealey pressure bleeder.

Obligatory old v new shot. Old fluid was two years old as I was last to change it.

Not driven it yet so cant tell if I notice a difference yet
