Hi all I have a 2004 525d e61 which keeps showing a traction control fault on the dash and at the same time the engine totally cuts off whether it's in gear driving at any speed or just sitting running This all started a week after I had egr and dpf deleted since then I have had it to a specialist who advised me the dde unit had water damage on the pins so I soarced another and had it cloned for my car also changed the crank sensor as was showing a fault after getting the dde in and the car up and running I took her for an mot passed used the car a few times the same day then when I was travelling to work early hour's got 4 miles along the motorway sitting about 70 the exact same fault came back just comes up traction control fault drive moderately while at the same time total engine shut down since then I have had another remap done but it has not made any difference to the car the only fault showing is 43e2 which I have been told on my car shouldn't cause this I am at a loss as to what to do next any help greatly appreciated thanks

    535D turbo issues

    Hi guys, Took my e61 535d to two independent specialists and had two different solutions presented. First one connected a diagnostic and a whole load of faults popped up with regards to DPF/ glow plugs/ air mass/ charge pressure/ exhaust pressure. He then, Took off the engine cover and checked the vac pipes and said they looked bad and that he couldn't see the two rods from the bottom of the turbos moving when revving the engine. Told me to have the pipes replaced first before going down any other route. I do have a 4 star warranty but this will not cover such components like pipes and plugs. Nice chap, didn't charge me a penny for his time and gave me the option of contacting him if Iwanted to go ahead. £140 labour plus the pipes which I said I can get at trade price too. Second garage, looked at the pictures I hadtaken of the diagnostic and said that the plugs replacement and pipes etc would cost me £560 and can get me in next week. Now, I know it may seem that the second garage is trying to take advantage of me but what could the issues be? Obviously I would like to keep as much money in my own pocket. If the vac pipes aren't doing their job then replacing those first would be the most efficient option before going through the warranty company which would want to wriggle out of paying anything?? Anyone else had similar problems or knows which garage to trust? Any help would be appreciated and please forgive me for my naivety. Thanks. Ams.

    New car - new problems

    Hi guys. I'm new to the forum so wanted some help please. Recently bought a E61 535d sport and I love the thing! Got a few issues that I need help with though. 1. Panoramic roof doesn't work properly, you can get the glass back in stages but the inside cover doesn't seem to want to go back at all? Is this a common problem/straight forward fix? 2. Auto lights switch turns the xenon headlights on in the day, which leads me to believe the dusk sensor isn't working? The rear view mirror is also quite dim. See you home lights don't work either. 3. Had to replace the battery and noticed water sitting in the battery tray. What do I need to check for blockages? Clearly a drainage problem related to the tailgate? Heard that this is a common problem? Any help with the above points would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Ams.

    Servicing advice

    Hi. Recently bought a 520d m sport (2014) Beautiful car. It needs a service and im looking at specialists. It has 60k and only showing one dealer service on idrive. May have had more from non dealer possibly. So one specialist uses all genuine bmw parts, castrol oil. Price came to £370, that includes vehicle check, all filters and oil of course. This specialist is also able to update idrive with his own record. 2nd specialist uses all mann filters and long life 04 Bmw grade comma syner -z c3 5w30 fully synthetic. He cant update idrive but does update the electronic service history which can be accessed through connected bmw portal online. This one quoted £230 ..so quite a difference. I would welcome any advice from more experienced bmw f10 owners. Thankyou

  6. Hi there, I need some advise on what could have caused the stop start failure message to appear in my 2011 bmw f10 520d. I have been told it could just need a replacement battery because the battery is 7 years old, is this true or just some bull? can anyone help? thanks
  7. Hi guys im new to this forum I previously owned a 120D with the n47 177 engine and got rid of it after getting too many major problems. I have now got a E60 520d full service history owned it for 3 months not had a problem. A friend of mine who has the same car had noticed my car was very low on power i then noticed after i drove his exact same car exact same engine no remap no mods mine has 160k on the clock i now notice sometimes the car is close to stalling on junction i have to almost redline it to get off this is on and off one day it will drive super one day it will have low power , what could it be thanks.     E34 Battery

    Morning guys, I need a quick bit of help / advice please. My E38 750 has a 700CCA battery in it and its supposed to have 850 - 900CCA. I can buy a battery from Halfords that will fit it no problem but my question...... Can I fit the 700CCA battery in my 525 E34? the voltage is the same and she should only take the Amps needed???? Any help would be appreciated

    525e No Starter. No spark

    Hi all, I have a 1987 525e (Motronic) which after spending two weeks in America, i come back to my car and she refuse to fire. I've done what i can and im out of ideas so really hoping someone can help! Also, worth mentioning that on the day that i got back and i realised the car refused to fire up i went to the petrol station and got £12 worth of fuel and some carb cleaner to assist a start. SHE STARTED UP! left running fine for 10 minutes but when ignition was switched off she refused to start immediately after (STRANGE, what is going on!?) . Problem/Symptoms; - No spark to any of the plugs apart from a single spark when coil is engaged at Pos3 - I believe im getting fuel as plugs are wet The facts; (strange results shown in RED) - Engine turns over by the key, top of engine moves (in time) with bottom - Brand new distributor cap and rotor arm - Brand new ignition coil - Swapped out CPS with one i had from 520i e28 (same hardwired one facing front harmonic balancer) - Swapped out main fuel relay with one from 520i - Swapped out MAF from 520i (i know it's trivial but, meh) - Checked for 12v heading towards the coil between 15+ and 0. (12v upon pos3, 10v when cranking) - Although coil is new, Resistance across posts all check out fine - Spark plugs are 2 months old - Continuity between both ends of main HT lead (coil tower to distributor) - Battery charged fully externally inside the house - DME socket where relay fits; - Tab30 suppose to have 12v, shows 0v - Tab85 suppose to have 0v, shows 0v - Tab 86 suppose to have 12v, shows 0v - Tab 87 and 87 suppose to both show 12v, shows 12v - Tab 87 and 87 suppose to both show 0v, shows 12v with ignition off - Checked for click from DME relay, it clicks just fine and i get the engine hum Questions that i am asking myself; - If my 520i M20 uses Jetronic fuel injection, and my 525e M20 uses motronic, why do they both have the same hard wired (no clip, needed cutting and soldering) crankshaft position sensors? - Why do i only get one spark when ignition is turned on, but none whilst cranking? - Does p.d towards the coil normalling drop from 12v to 10v when cranking? - Why did she start ONCE but refused to start immediately after? - Is my ECU fried? and if so.... why? only sat for 2 weeks...     535D SOUNDS LIKE A TRACTOR :(

    HI ALL, IM NEW TO ALL THIS BOUGHT MYSELF A 2004 535D. EVERY RECEIPT FOR THE CAR, ALL SERVICED BY BMW UP UNTIL APRIL 2015. I WAS RETURNING FROM A TRIP TO THE SOUTH OF UK AND BACK AT THE WEEKEND AND ON THE WAY BACK I WAS CRUISING AT 70/75MPH. I GOT CAUGHT BEHIND A BAD BOY CORSA WHO WOULDNT SHIFT INTO THE MIDDLE LANE SO I UNDERTOOK HIM. IN MY FRUSTRATION I PUT MY FOOT DOWN. A WAY TO SHOW HIM WHO IS BOSS REALLY. WE ALL DO IT. AS I ACCELERATED FROM 70 TO AROUND 100 (I HAD MUSIC BLASTING) I NOTICED A STRANGE VIBRATION SUDDENLY. I SLOWED DOWN TO AROUND 60 AND TURNED MY MUSIC OFF. GUT WRENCHING THINKING I HAD BLEW UP MY BEAUTY. THE 535 STILL SEEMED TO HAVE THE POWER THERE BUT IT SOUNDED HORRIFIC, AS IF THE EXHAUST WAS BLOWING MASSIVELY. AT FIRST I THOUGHT IT MAY HAVE BEEN THE EXHAUST MID SECTION. IT SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS COMING FROM THAT AREA. I PULLED OVER IN THE NEXT SERVICES, 5 MILES DOWN THE ROAD AND INVESTIGATED FURTHER. THE SOUND WASNT COMING FROM THE EXHAUST AS I HAD HOPED. I POKED MY HEAD UNDER THE CAR AND SAW/HEARD NOTHING BAD FROM THERE. HOWEVER AT IDLE, THE ENGINE SOUNDED HORRIBLE. I SHUT THE CAR DOWN STRAIGHT AWAY AND TRIED TO START IT AGAIN 10 MINUTES LATER WHILST I WAITED FOR MY FRIEND WITH HIS TOW TRUCK. THE SOUND WAS STILL BAD BUT WASNT AS BAD AS WHEN IT WAS WARMER WHEN I HAD PULLED OVER. THE CAR IS NOW SAT ON MY DRIVEWAY AND IM AWAY IN SCOTLAND FOR WORK. I PLAN TO GET HOME TO IT AT THE WEEKEND AND HAVE A BETTER LOOK AND MAYBE EVEN CALL THE AA OUT TO SEE IF THEY CAN EVALUATE THE SITUATION. TILL THEN, DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEAS? OR HAS ANYONE EXPERIENCED THIS BEFORE? IM HOPING ITS NOT TOO PRICEY, ALREADY HAD TO COUGH UP FOR A NEW CRANK VIBRATION PULLEY, ALTERNATOR AND AIR CON COMPRESSOR. WITH NEW BELT OF COURSE.   11. Hi all, My mate is looking at purchasing an E38 735 V8 Sport Individual with 136k on the clock as a daily. I have no clue about these cars or in fact V8’s and wanted to get some pointers on what to look out for before we go view it soon. He’s asking for £2000 and this was the last thing he stated; “Its been stood for a couple of months service rust on the discs due to being stood for several months some rust on off side rear arch and since battery went flat traction control light on dash but wil garage to check and clear with mot.” Here are some pics - the specs are in the last few pics.   13. So I have bought myself a 2000 520i se 2.2, it has 80k on it an set me back 1k (GBP). I have been driving it for about a week and have a few problems that I could do with trying to sort: - When the rear window heating is on there is static from the radio, reading up it sounds like a common problem and there is a dodgy earth, has anyone a bit of a guide on how to fix? - The parking sensors don't work, listened and the rear and front left aren't buzzing so I assume these are causing the problem, not bothered about the front, if I took a working one from the front and put it in the place if the broken rear will this make the rear work again? Or do all need to be working? - Flicking through the computer and it says the temp is -40.0 - the Max "cold" button doesn't do anything, light doesn't come on when pressed, possibly something to do with the temperature being wrong as above. - sometimes it takes like 5+ seconds to start up as apposed to the approx 2 seconds as usual, and when this happens there seems to be a proper lack of power but turn of and on again and works fine??? - The clutch randomly stayed flat to the ground? Kicked it a few times and it eventually popped back up, going through the previous owners paperwork and he took this to a garage who replaced the clutch think this will resolve the problem but it still seems to happen? Possibly need the clutch bleeding, gonna take it back to the garage asap. Any advice on any of these problems would be much appreciated. Cheers Rob

Hi im having probs with the electrics on my s reg e39, the window and rear boot will not open no more its just stopped when I closed it, the internal button makes a noise when pressed but it will not unlach its self to open nor the rear window, the key thob stopped working at the same time, also the trachion control light comes on and will not go out, all happened at the same time. I really nee help with this as I as im not so good with electrics Has any one had these problems ?? if so could you please advise me on what could be cousing this problem please Thanks so much chrisiv82 my tel 07990604835

Hello 5 series people, I've been a BMW owner for about 12 years now since my first e30 325i, done the E36 thing a few times and more recently an e39 530 Sport which I gave to my Dad when i bought myself an E46 M3 convertible. However an expanding family and the now relative cheapness of the E39 M5 is becoming too much to resist. So i've put the M3 up for sale and have started looking at E39 M5's, driven a few including the one for sale at 4Star Classics. Considering buying this one, does anyone know anything about it? http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3527584.htm What are simple easy things that i can look for myself when buying viewing cars? Everyone tells you something different, I've been told by a couple of people that the almost diesely sound of them on tickover is normal, but then somone else told me thats rubbish and his doesnt sound like a like that at all? Any help much appreciated.
  18. I set about changing my oil today on the RX-8, drained the sump, went to get the oil filter off and it was jammed, tried to get a firm grip, but I couldn't really get any purchase on it. So off to halfords for a chain type filter wrench, it broke, but not before crushing the filter a but. So I got a different type chain wrench, the handle makes that unusable as there is no room. Ive searhed the net and the soloution seems to be the worst possible scenario, screwdiver through the filter, which will of course lead to oil everywhere, then I may need to chisel the damn thing. Please tell me there is another way, Im sooooooo frustrated. I now have my Rex with no engine oil and a damaged filter Grrrrrrr

Hello all i own a 2004 54 535d, have a issue with battery draining??? can start fine one day drive somewhere then no response when trying to start. used battery booster to restart got home parked up and started fine again in the morning. Drove for about 60 miles the next day again no start when on our way home. Plz help. Dan Leeds
