    ISTA D/P and FRM worries

Hi all, very new to the forum and have a (most likely) idiot question. Having come to the conclusion that I might need to see what's going on under the bonnet occasionally, I bought a cable and ISTA D/P from bcables. Haven't had time to set it up on my laptop yet, but came across a couple of posts regarding ISTA D bricking the FRM's by simply scanning them....no coding or programming involved. I've found one source which definitively seems to indicate only Minis and E series cars are at risk, but still not too sure.... What are the chances of bricking my 2010 F10 523i FRM by trying to troubleshoot a problem? Thanks for any help, and apologies for posting in coding....it seemed the closest thing to diagnostics.
  2. Hi all, 2 weeks ago my 2008 535D Touring kept cutting out on me when I tried to accelerate, this only happened when warm. So I took it in to my local dealer who diagnosed the no. 6 injector was defect plus the glow plugs and the glow controllers to boot, costing me 1400 euros. So I bought a diagnostic cable with all software so that I could maybe sort the problem out myself next time. Low and behold, on Friday the same problem started happening again. Having finally managed to work out how to use INPA I have established that now no. 5 injector has a problem. see below: Steuergerät : 12 DME/DDE - D62M57A0 - Dieselelektronik DDE 6 6 Zylinder M57 TÜ2 Job Status : OKAY Fehlerort : 17488 0x4450 - 4450 Injektor Zylinder 5, Ansteuerung Fehlersymptom : 4290 Minusseite Kurzschluss nach Plus (neg.side short circuit to positive) Readyness Flag : 16 Testbedingungen erfüllt Fehler vorhanden : 33 Fehler momentan nicht vorhanden, aber bereits gespeichert Warnung Flag : 48 Fehler würde kein Aufleuchten einer Warnlampe verursachen My questions are: Do I have to have the complete injector changed or could this just be a contact problem? How do I know the others aren't going to follow suit? And what could be causing this e.g. low running temperature, wiring, software etc.? I've included the complete test result in case someone sees any other problems I might have coming. Thanks for any suggestions you may have tderrors13-03-16.pdf

    Diagnostics - OBD II

I have read numerous articles on diagnostic tools. Cannot decide though which one would be more suitable, and why not value for money. -ELM327: is the most popular and least expensive. Understandable that being cheap could have reliability issues. Some new devices work, others don't. Unclear to me to distinguish which ELM327 would be the best choice (wired USB, bluetooth, WiFi). Any experience? I would prefer to use a USB with a PC software, provided it would give me more diagnostic power. I've read articles that the wired/USB choice is bad since the PC based software available for this device are useless. -Cable-Shack: BMW specific and looks promissing. Is this a standalone solution or would I need extra software like DIS, TIS, SSS to work? -BMW C110: BMW specific and looks promissing as well. Please correct me if the statements above are incorrect. This is just my understanding on the subject. Since I would like to have one device capable to work on my BMW, EvoX and Ford Focus, the ELM would be the ideal solution, as long as it works. I don't need fancy graphics. I need a powerfull tool for diagnosis, fault reset and live sensor data. Your support would be much appreciated.
