  1. Hi everyone, looking for a bit of advice, I have just had an annoying 'airbag/restraint fault' warning come up again (3rd time in a year) i have coincidently had the car in the garage for other work the previous times that it has come up and they had been doing diagnostics anyway and identified the fault as caused by some sort of minor variance in the voltage of one of the airbags that wouldnt affect the operation of the system and cleared it for me at no additional charge to the work already being done. I dont really fancy taking it back in and paying £40 for a diagnostic and fault clear alone, I would rather invest in some kit myself so I want to get something for clearing faults and doing basic diagnostics. I dont really know where to start so Im looking for some reccomendations. I have heard people mention the Carly and various other DIS systems and I have found quite a few just by googling and they are readily available but I would preffer to go on a solid reccomendation from someone on here who has actually used the kit and can point me in the right direction.

    Diagnostics - OBD II

I have read numerous articles on diagnostic tools. Cannot decide though which one would be more suitable, and why not value for money. -ELM327: is the most popular and least expensive. Understandable that being cheap could have reliability issues. Some new devices work, others don't. Unclear to me to distinguish which ELM327 would be the best choice (wired USB, bluetooth, WiFi). Any experience? I would prefer to use a USB with a PC software, provided it would give me more diagnostic power. I've read articles that the wired/USB choice is bad since the PC based software available for this device are useless. -Cable-Shack: BMW specific and looks promissing. Is this a standalone solution or would I need extra software like DIS, TIS, SSS to work? -BMW C110: BMW specific and looks promissing as well. Please correct me if the statements above are incorrect. This is just my understanding on the subject. Since I would like to have one device capable to work on my BMW, EvoX and Ford Focus, the ELM would be the ideal solution, as long as it works. I don't need fancy graphics. I need a powerfull tool for diagnosis, fault reset and live sensor data. Your support would be much appreciated.

    This could be really good!

Came across this today, going to download and check it out tomorrow, looks really promising. BMWhat-BMW diagnosis From the limited number of reviews it doen't look like it has been around for long. I already use this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.prowl.torque&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsIm9yZy5wcm93bC50b3JxdWUiXQ. (Android only) to monitor the engine ECU mostly to monitor my coolant temeratures as it's so much simpler and more convenient than the hidden menu method, plus it has some neat associated camera features too. You need an ELM 327 OBD bluetooth device to use both of these App's but there are plenty to choose from online, mine is this one http://www.obdkey.com/index.asp. Anyone else tried this yet.
