    V5 engine size...

    All, I have a 2009 BMW 525 (badged!) has anyone come across this issue before... So V5 states engine 2993 CC, Make model 525D on V5 !? MOT also states BMW 525. So I emailed BMW Homologation department to verify the engine size and they sent me a CARDO-prod-PWK-ManuellesCoC.'engine number'.pdf file... This is the ES Certificate of Conformity of the techincal details of your vehcile. So this states, BMW, model 560L, lots of other information, engine size again 2993 which matches the V5 etc. Then the document show's the signature by BMW for this certificate back in nov 2008. So I'm confused is my car in fact a 530 and not a 525 ?! As with all documents it should really show 2497 ? and not 2993 !? Also the certificate don't mention 525 or 530 just 560L... Help, anyone had this? Regards
  2. Hey everybody. I'm not a huge car guy but I wanna buy myself a bmw e61 525 2.5 130kw 2004 (as a first car). Pros and Cons? Car has passed inspection every time with no issues and also car maintained by BMW representation. Before buying it what i should look for? list of things i have to check before buying. What are the clear RED flags?   4. I'm now part of the BMW club, after many Fords and Vauxhalls I have seen the light! WoW what's the difference ! Excellent in every way. She's a Blue E60 (2005) 525 TDS , 100,000 miles with Beige / Walnut / leather interior. Servicing required in May 2017. Help me guys .... I want to look after The engine and maybe tastefully upgrade elements of the interior . Please advise....

    525e No Starter. No spark

    Hi all, I have a 1987 525e (Motronic) which after spending two weeks in America, i come back to my car and she refuse to fire. I've done what i can and im out of ideas so really hoping someone can help! Also, worth mentioning that on the day that i got back and i realised the car refused to fire up i went to the petrol station and got £12 worth of fuel and some carb cleaner to assist a start. SHE STARTED UP! left running fine for 10 minutes but when ignition was switched off she refused to start immediately after (STRANGE, what is going on!?) . Problem/Symptoms; - No spark to any of the plugs apart from a single spark when coil is engaged at Pos3 - I believe im getting fuel as plugs are wet The facts; (strange results shown in RED) - Engine turns over by the key, top of engine moves (in time) with bottom - Brand new distributor cap and rotor arm - Brand new ignition coil - Swapped out CPS with one i had from 520i e28 (same hardwired one facing front harmonic balancer) - Swapped out main fuel relay with one from 520i - Swapped out MAF from 520i (i know it's trivial but, meh) - Checked for 12v heading towards the coil between 15+ and 0. (12v upon pos3, 10v when cranking) - Although coil is new, Resistance across posts all check out fine - Spark plugs are 2 months old - Continuity between both ends of main HT lead (coil tower to distributor) - Battery charged fully externally inside the house - DME socket where relay fits; - Tab30 suppose to have 12v, shows 0v - Tab85 suppose to have 0v, shows 0v - Tab 86 suppose to have 12v, shows 0v - Tab 87 and 87 suppose to both show 12v, shows 12v - Tab 87 and 87 suppose to both show 0v, shows 12v with ignition off - Checked for click from DME relay, it clicks just fine and i get the engine hum Questions that i am asking myself; - If my 520i M20 uses Jetronic fuel injection, and my 525e M20 uses motronic, why do they both have the same hard wired (no clip, needed cutting and soldering) crankshaft position sensors? - Why do i only get one spark when ignition is turned on, but none whilst cranking? - Does p.d towards the coil normalling drop from 12v to 10v when cranking? - Why did she start ONCE but refused to start immediately after? - Is my ECU fried? and if so.... why? only sat for 2 weeks...     E34 from Norfolk

    Evening all, about time I get on here as I'm damn sure its going to be useful. So I reluctantly sold my first car, a 1996 MX5, owned for the last 1 and a half years its done me good but I needed something to lug my bicycles around the country and abroad so I went in search of something larger... Which has thus landed me with this 1995 525 touring. Being only 21, my colleagues and friends are disgusted by the fact i've bought an estate and despite my reasoning they persist in calling me an "old man" they just dont understand . Regardless I picked this because of the m50 lump and manual box which was what I'd been waiting for. Previous owner swapped in a set of heated sport seats which im not complaining about at all and despite the usual roof lining sag the inside interior pretty sound. Exterior is good for the age imo with the only real grumbles for me being the scabby roof rails, crack in bumper and the rust around the filler cap, all of which should be fixed over time. Now the unfortunate part, no MOT ... I carted it from Birmingham to Norfolk and I now need it MOT'd, it failed on 1 tyre being below the limit, corroded brake lines front to rear n/s and worn drop link. So not really any major probelmos. Having fallen into the metric tyre trap I didn't really fancy the idea of £150 a corner on old rubber and i've picked up a meaty set of style 66's saving my wallet a wedge there. And thats really the story so far. Next on priority list is sorrting the lines and drop link for the MOT and then who knows.

    Starting issues

    Hi Guys, Got myself a 525tds about 6 months a go, 1 owner from new, and everything is mint! love it! HOWEVER!! When i purchased it, it had 3/4 tank of fuel in, and i thought it was just my lucky day, but it turns out, this was masking a problem! Whenever the fuel drops below 1/4 or anywhere near 1/4 tank, the car refuses to start, and you have to keep turning it over until it decides to start, sometimes taking a minute of turning over! Any ideas guys? Took it to a local garage, they replaced the fuel pipe at the front as it was leaking, then said that when below 1/4 tank the fuel doesn't reach the fuel pipe at under the hood? Any ideas? I've seen fuel pumps on eBay for quite cheap 70 quid or so, but then have heard that its £800!? So am i looking at the wrong part?

    85 525e Project

    As I'd posted up my E34 I thought I'd show you guys my other project - 85 eta This is transferred from another forum so may not make much sense as the first part was written a while ago! Right, as I got her: 98,000 miles with history and recent bills. Waxolyed Mods were minor, being these trx's, tinting and it was lowered on Apex springs. I have the original springs and wheels with grandad spec wheelplates and radio just in case it all needs to go back to original spec. It rubbed even under light acceleration (tyres were 230mm wide!) so these had to come off, even though he'd spent a huge amount of money on the spray job: ..so she now had to sit on the old rims..tasty: ..a little better perhaps: Anyhoo, I managed to hunt down these beasties for £110 with good tread: but these were 55 prof on the rear and a only 50 on the front..which lead to me taking the sump tap straight off..happy days: So a new set of tyres later: All good. She'll still hit the bump stops on our sh#tty potholed roads, so maybe a set of stiffer shocks to come.. The gear selector cable snapped, so I fitted a new one, Also, there are a few scuffs and dints and dodge rear paintjob plus a little rot on the arches and doors so she's going in for bodywork as I write this, wings, sills, rear quarters and the boot which needs to be sanded back to the metal. Good stuff. Will let you know when that kicks off too, with before and after piccies. -Almost forgot- bought new wheel badges and a bonnet badge Cheers
  25. Hi I have a 1992 Bmw 525i Auto with the 2.5 M50 engine, my car is showing some of the symptoms of a headgasket failiure. The symptoms are : Lack of power, Misfire under acceleration, oil in water, water and oil level dropping and constant white smoke. Earlier I checked my spark plugs after starting it to see if there was a green tint but there was nothing although the spark plugs were covered in carbon fouling. It has shown no signs of overheating and there is absolutely no pressure in the cooling system. Is this a headgasket failiure? If not what is wrong with my car? Many Thanks E34MAN92
