Has anyone got a pair of rocker covers from the M62 (with vanos)? I'm looking for a pair to have refurbished.

What did you do to your E39 today ?

Thought this might be the case, I’ll just monitor it, probably just a side-effect of normally just being a weekend use car. Once I’ve sold the saloon and have my proper parking space back, I’m gonna look into installing an outdoor socket and getting a trickle charger.

What did you do to your E39 today ?

Went for a little drive in the 540i Touring last night - to see a few mates for our monthly meet... (used to be a lot more of us/a lot more fords/fiestas, but many are now off the road, either broken or in the middle of rebuilds... plus we’re not in our 20’s any more... nearly twice that for most of us and life has a habit of getting in the way! ) Firstly i noticed it seemed to fire up a touch strangely, almost a little misfire/shudder after startup. Then I noticed a little bit battery light flicker whilst idling, and prob for the first 5 mins of the drive. Strangely the car seemed to hesitate if I planted the throttle, just a slight stutter for a second before it would pick up as expected. Didn’t seem to do this on the way home... I did a quick fire up after work this evening and the car was fine. Checked battery (new last month). 12.47 volts with ignition off, it seems the be about 13.6-13.8v with the engine running... I’d have expected a bit more? just awaiting some heavy duty adhesive velcro for my door trim rattle... I tried new clips, but it still moves/rattles squeaks at the front end of the door card. A friend last night actually suggested using a nut and a washer on the front stud if I don’t have any luck - seems a good potential solution.
  6. Please can I have a price for: 51712498988 (Part 9) and the relevant fixings? chassis no. is BH99030, however there’s a different part/number listed (51718159981) which I don’t think is correct. - mine is a factory 2002 540i Sport Touring Manual. Also, can you identify which is the correct version of item 19 & 20 (Plus fixings) - again I’m struggling because realoem doesn’t seem to identify my car correctly for these bits. Thanks. ooh, can I also please have a price for the central dash vent (item1) - black.

    Carbon Fibre Roof Pics

I bet you could find enough people for a group buy though!
  9. I’ve heard the unit is behind the storage tray under the rear vents? I might have a peek later to see if I can see the type. don’t seem to have option to select a different ecu, it just comes up as “airbag” under the ‘body’ section. im gonna try sticking the disc back in the laptop later because I feel like I’ve got an old version, or something not quite loaded right. any idea what the fuse number is? I’ve read the fuse sometimes pops, although tbh as the light seems intermittent (it went out for all of 60 seconds at one point yesterday without me touching anything) I think it’s still a sensor/connection somewhere... just got to find where!
  10. I’ve got an intermittent airbag light on my dash, which has become more permanent as time has gone on. when I scan using INPA, I often get ‘ERROR_ECU_REJECTED’ EDIABAS errors. I can’t seem to read the error memory or clear any faults. at least if I could get it to point to a specific component I might be able to fix it, or at least code it out. I’ve had a new airbag unit for the steering wheel a few years back, and even the passenger seat sensor was replaced a fair while back. For a good few years, the light flickers on/off, sometimes staying off for weeks/months, then it’ll be back again for ages. also, when I try NCSexpert I can’t seem to load it, something about wrong version? I have the cableshack setup, is there anything else I can use to try and read the errors? p.s. not sure if this goes in this section, or in the ‘coding’ section. please help!

What did you do to your E39 today ?

Think I found my noise... front of door trim wasn’t clipped in firmly due to the metal part of these clips being broken. luckily I ordered a load from cotswold a while back, so intend to replace all of the inserts with new ones as the plastic that retains the metal part is broken on most of them. I’m tempted to bond the new ones in with a couple of dabs of epoxy, reckon this will be ok?
  12. Please can you explain how I find out what I need to? thanks
  13. I’ve got a set of the plastic ones made by laser, they’re nice and light/portable, and great for getting the extra couple of inches to get a jack under a low car. also got two pairs of old-school metal racks, but due to modern car over-hangs, I tend to jack the car up, then wedge the ramps under the wheels instead of using axle-stands.

literally a quick low pressure rinse with the karcher to remove the loose dust, a coating of meguiars snow-foam (it’s what was bought for me at Christmas), then a bit of a higher pressure rinse. I normally use a (clean/wiped/damp) silicone squeegee to lightly remove majority of water from roof/windows/bonnet, then a wipe over with a clean meguiars drying towel. im not exactly a detailer, and at the moment neither of the cars have pristine paint, so I try to be careful not to lift any flaking paint/lacquer/rusty spots, plus I don’t have the patience to be too involved.

    Passenger door locked...but

Pretty certain one of them has the red/blue wire going to it.
  17. Yarp I’ll be sad to see it go, but I need the driveway space back, and the money to invest in the touring.

    Passenger door locked...but

To be honest, I kind of knew (after a bit of tinkering) where I’d potentially caused damage, so was able to pull the glovebox/undertray out and see the damaged wires. - I’d tried wedging a stereo related box of tricks up beside the glovebox and sliced some wires on the sharp edge. generally you’re looking for the red/blue wires. Although I guess it could also be an earth etc. id start there. Pull the cover under the glovebox/dash off, and give the connectors on the gm3 module a wiggle. there’s also two big fuses up there and a relay which I checked for tightness too. at least with the basic drawings above, it gives you a place to start. I would try connecting INPA and scanning your gm3 module too. have you tried unplugging the battery for an hour or so before reconnecting? Just incase something needs rebooting? whilst you’re there, check in the boot for the same red/blue wires. I’m sure there’s one or two in there too.

Does anyone know the correct wiring colours / gauges? are they the same across the whole touring range? if I order new silicone insulated wire, it’d be nice to keep to oem colours
