    F11 Wheel Offset

Difficult one ! This may help ..... or not ! I think , possibly, that ET35 wheel may be right for a different model ? Could be wrong.... I dare say new alloys are lower down the pecking order on your Missus’ spending tree than yours !

Your tyre size is going to be a factor too ?

    F11 Wheel Offset

I have previously used a similar site called wheelsize.com in the past, again a good source of valuable info. My preference would always be to go for the exact offset for the car, as I think you’ve decided on. BMW spent a lot of time and money figuring out what that offset should be in the first place for a good reason. It’s surprising just how much difference a few millimetres can make to handling and increased wear, especially when your tyres are a pretty penny to replace ! Good luck finding your nice new rims .......... I always think, subconsciously, they’re the first think you see when you look at a car, good or bad, they make the it and hopefully make you smile !

    F07 Replacing battery

Here’s a pic of my old battery, again, like yours, it doesn’t signify AGM but I was assured by BMW that it was one. I have seen a few images of the same batteries with different labels, some with more info than others ??? Never got to figure it out ! As long as you have the right info coded into the car now though ..... happy days

    F07 Replacing battery

Tomnewo - Yep, the Exide is the one I bought. Fitted, working fine , no problem. That link to the Bosch one you show is a calcium battery and not an AGM one, which I’d be surprised if your original one isn’t agm. My car isn’t stop/start but because of the spec this is what BMW fitted from new.

    F07 Replacing battery

From what you’ve said I think fitting a new battery makes sense. I went down a similar road recently for my F07 530d 2010. You can get a decent replacement on fleabay for around the £130 mark. My original was a 92ah too. The one I got is an Exide AGM with 95Ah and 850cca with a 3 year warranty. The seller was a national motor factors so I ordered it online and collected it from my local shop but there are plenty online with free delivery. Search for an Exide EK950, other makes will show too ....! Unfortunately I don’t have access to any coding hardware or Ista so had to find an Indy who would register it to the car for me. Long story ...... but after a 15 minute job to fit it myself I did get it done, cost me £40 though ! which I thought was a bit steep. Now I know everyone is entitled to their profit and the garage had to buy the equipment and I didn’t , etc. but it took less than 2 minutes to complete and that included walking from the office to my car and connecting up ! I think £25 would have been a fair price but anyway , I’ve had my moan and all done, so in total it set me back less than £180 and no more e-gremlins ......

    Weak O/S washer jet

From recent experience I hope this may help after I changed my “washer array” back in September as the n/s nozzle housing was broken and leaked as opposed to a weak operation. In doing so I discovered the following ; A - the reason you have to change the whole section is because they are heated jets and the wiring and elements are sealed into the pipe work and plastic housings. Hence the £££££s for a new one ! B - the jets are fixed and set right back into the housing so can’t be reached with a pin to clean. C - the only adjustment possible is by turning a torx screw under each nozzle which gives a small amount of vertical range up and down the screen. D - there is a hinged part at the front of the nozzle between the housing and the flat section which clips to the bonnet, this becomes brittle, cracks and can then split, separating the two pieces. As this is what allows the nozzle to move for adjustment it will then spray wherever .... E - finding a second hand one was almost impossible as mostly they’re already broken or sellers won’t separate them from the bonnet. After 2 months searching I was about to give up and go to Bmw but then found one from a breakers in Sweden, cost me £45 delivered, lucky me, sorted F - getting the array off isn’t that obvious and easily broken ! Gently push the nozzle housing forward and then prise down the back end, squirt the the pipe work fixings with WD40 and give them a tug down. If you’re still awake after reading all that then I hope it helps in some way and good luck !!! Pete

    Battery charging

From what you’ve said I think fitting a new battery makes sense. I went down a similar road recently. Your quote of £280 ish all in is a bit much though if your happy to fit the battery yourself. You can get a decent replacement on fleabay for around the £130 mark. My original battery was pretty much the same as yours. The one I got is an Exide AGM with 95Ah and 850cca with a 3 year warranty. I collected mine from a local motor factors but there are plenty online with free delivery. Search for an Exide EK950, other makes will show too. Unfortunately I don’t have access to any coding hardware or Ista so had to find an Indy who would register it to the car for me. Long story ...... but after a 15 minute job to fit it myself I did get it done, cost me £40 though ! which I thought was a bit steep. I think £25 would have been a fair price but anyway , I’ve had my moan and all done, so in total it set me back less than £180. Hopefully I’m all good for the winter now Good luck !

    Engine oil question

I only ever use Magnatec and have done for maybe 25 years, and fully synthetic these days ! As for a non branded oil, if it’s the right spec and you’re doing oil changes at lower mileage intervals, 6/7 ish thousand then you should expect it to do what it says on the tin !

    Genuine bmw screen wash

I used the Prestone stuff once and it smelled like someone was peeing on the screen too.....!! Never again. Personally I have been using Halfrauds own 5lt Berry flavour concentrate for years. Specifically the concentrate as it’s only a fiver and I mix it however I like depending on the weather. Used with many different cars down the years and never had a problem with blockages , freezing , etc, plus it smells great. I’m very much a “picky bugger” with my cars and I’m absolutely not a fan of the company but would definitely recommend this screenwash. Everyone will probably have their own opinion on it but I have always believed in regularly using my washers every time I get in the car and don’t fill up the reservoir until it’s almost empty, limiting the mix of old and new fluid. Maybe bollox, but it’s served me well for a very long time ,

    Battery registering needed

cheers Matthew ...... mind you the traffic should be light
  12. Morning folks, I have a new battery for my F07 which I’m hoping to fit soon. I’m looking for help in getting it registered once it’s on the car. I don’t have any coding capability to do it myself so was hoping there may be a kind local forum member who could work their magic for me or recommend a trusted garage who does it nearby. Beer tokens are readily available ! Any help much appreciated. Pete

    F07 Ride comfort improvement

You would need to check the size of your brake discs on the front as the 18” rims may foul the callipers on the larger brake set ups. Otherwise they should go straight on.
  14. As a conclusion to this post , I did get the Camera image sorted out. I was helped out by a fellow member who very kindly went out of his way to meet me locally, plugged in his ISTA software and duly flipped the image for me, job done . So a very big thank you to Matthew Ashton for his time and knowledge and helping me as I’m sure he’s helped many others previously, a 100% genuine guy. Cheers Pete.

    F07 Ride comfort improvement

Hi, like you, I recently bought an F07 GT In June, a 2010 3.0D with 20” rims. Before buying it I did a lot of research on various different aspects of the car and did have my reservations about the wheel and tyre size ; road noise, comfort, speed bumps, pot holes, buckled and cracked alloys, you get the gist! Unfortunately as you’ve discovered there isn’t a great deal of choice out there. The F07 does share the same set up and spec as the 7 series F01/F02/F04 but that’s it and the wheel and tyre size combinations are very specific. As Mathew said, deviating from what it should have is not advisable, it will probably feel wrong and cause uneven wear. I had a good look on fleabay and there a few different wheels available in 18, 19 & 20 inch also the appropriate tyre sizes are limited as they are only for these Bmw models. I did consider changing my 20’s but as it is such a costly exercise I decided to stick with them. As soon as I’d bought the car I had them powder coated and changed the tyres at the same time. As for the tyres, “Normal” ones will always be more comfortable on the road but in these sizes there is little or none to choose from. I stuck with runflats but changed the Goodyears it came with for Bridgestones. These GTs seem to have a HUGE problem with excessive rear inner edge wear, in particular with OE Goodyears, so much so, in the states it is a safety recall and Goodyear have even admitted their tyres were faulty and have made contributions towards tyre replacements. NOT in this country though, sounds about par for the course here ...... Anyway I’m fairly happy with my set up, some roads are worse than others, some potholes/speed bumps feel like the Himalayas, motorways are pretty quiet and I guess that’s the good and bad of driving on todays roads ! I do like the look of them though As for improving what you have, that probably just comes down to a balance of what you can live with and how deep your pockets are !!!! I did see a nice set of refurbed and freshly coated 19 inch for £750 ish which I think are still for sale. Hope that’s of some help and that you’re enjoying your GT, I know I love mine Good luck ....... Pete
