    Alloy Corrosion - Warranty?

Just a quick update - BMW UK have been in touch and have said that any evidence of refurbishment would void the warranty because the parts are no longer in 'original condition'. I'm continuing to fight this because i dont see how a minor touch up to the outer edge of the alloy could in anyway be viewed as the reason behind corrosion to the centre hub, which is a known problem that BMW have advised dealerships about. Could i ask if anyone here has been in the same situation please? ie alloys that have been refurbed that were replaced under warranty due to hub corrosion. Thanks.

    Alloy Corrosion - Warranty?

Very true, and to be clear i must say the service advisor has always been very helpful - i understand she's only telling me what she has been told. Latest is she is going to see what she can do and come back to me, so hopefully the service manager/head of business might step in before BMW get back to me but we'll see.

    Alloy Corrosion - Warranty?

Many thanks for all your comments, i've sent an email to BMW and copied to dealer, so will report back what happens!

    Alloy Corrosion - Warranty?

Just received the attached from the dealer... I think that dealerships that refuse a claim for corrosion of the hubs because of previous kerbing refurbishment are misinterpreting this. I read this to say that it is a warranty claim unless there is clear outside influence (of the affected area) - which is perfectly understandable.

    Alloy Corrosion - Warranty?

That's my feeling too! How can i go about forcing the issue - can i force them to make the claim to BMW on my behalf anyway? or do i have to contact BMW direct somehow?

    Alloy Corrosion - Warranty?

Hi all, I had my car in at BMW this morning after sending them the attached photos of corrosion on all 4 alloys. After a brief search it seems like this white worm corrosion is common and a number of people have been able to get BMW to replace the alloys under warranty. Some it seems had issues with the dealer not accepting a replacement if the alloy had evidence of kerbing/previous refurb, but others said this didn't void the warranty - particular if the corrosion was clearly prominent and unrelated to kerbing. The dealer told me that the corrosion on the spokes is likely due to a stone chip and water getting in, which they wont cover under warranty, and the corrosion around the hub which do know to be an issue they also wont do anything about because evidence of kerbing/previous refurb around the edges has voided the warranty. Obviously i'm really not happy with this but i was told this was the warranty manager's position as BMW would just throw any claim out. I could try another dealership but would be very grateful for any advice on whether i should be able to pursue this further, and if so how? Thanks.

    BMW Download Manager

My version info says: Road Map EUROPE EVO 2017-2, and Automatic map update: GB, IE 2019-4 I'm afraid i dont really understand the NBT/EVO references people have made - but is there a way of manually updating to 2020-1? I assume OTA updates just come at random times, and when i go the Connected Drive store to download to USB via the download manager it gives the current version as: 2019-4 so am i right in thinking i just have to wait until it becomes available for my car?

    BMW Download Manager

Thank you all for your help - very much appreciated. I haven't actually had much chance to use the car due to recent events, so didnt even realise there was only a usb in the armrest and not the glovebox! Also, like a proper idiot, i went into the idrive settings yesterday and found that the nav version already says 2019-4 which i assume is the most recent. Sorry to waste your time! Now to take some photos of the slightly corroded alloys and hopefully get these replaced while i still have some warranty left... and get them to fix an annoying rattle which seems to be coming from behind the idrive screen (sounds like fans rattling in the air vents?).

    BMW Download Manager

Hi All, Hope everyone is keeping safe. I'm a new member and have recently picked up a '17 plate 530d xdrive, and have finally been able to connect the car to my Connecteddrive account (previous fleet car). I'm hoping someone might be able to help me with downloading the latest map update please... I've downloaded the update from the BMW Download Manager, and now at the point where it asks me to 'select usb device'. I dont have a usb stick with 35gb free so is there a way i can download this to my laptop ('save data' option greyed out for some reason? see attached screenshot) and then use a usb cable to connect to cars glovebox usb? Or at least to save to the laptop for when i do have a usb stick? Any help much appreciated!
