    E60 Scan Software

I recently bought a 2005/525D E60 with very low mileage and I did take a bit of a risk - but the money was sensible - I have a few issues to sort out and I am looking for a decent OBD scan tool that works with Windows 10.. Any recommendations would be much appreciated Thanks Paul

    Changing Stock Radio Options

I am looking at a radio this afternoon and im told its in perfect condition and no issues with pixels - its the OEM BMW Business head unit with Cassette - if its 100% I am going to buy it - I think it will sell for €40 (he is asking €60) and if your interested in it I would be happy to sell it on if €40 buys it / not a problem if you don't want it, ill keep it as a back up - If I take it I will do a short video of it plugged in and working should you want it - I can send to you using DPD - wont be that expensive Regards Paul

    Changing Stock Radio Options

best of luck as you embark on your E39 journey - any idea what the problem is with the gearbox ! I had to replace the selector switch on mine as it was throwing it into limp mode (cog light on dash) I’m planning on doing oil and filter change on the box over Christmas - just not sure about releasing the transmission fluid from the torque converter - Does your OEM Business radio have a cassette / I picked up a secondhand one for €30 in excellent condition and no issues with Pixels - you should be able to locate one at the right money. I prefer stock everything - and that includes the old school OEM radio which sounds just fine and it keeps the ergonomics in place — yes the GROM is a perfect solution albeit you loose the CD unit - I can live with that I can have a root about here in Ireland for an OEM radio if that helps - maybe send me a photo of your one including the rear connector block and aerial socket regards Paul

    Fuel Pump Seal

Its hard to get the "feel" when using the "Fred Flintstone" hammer and chisel method and you need to get uniform tightening of the securing ring - its awkward to get the best angle and your kinda limited to three locations about the circle - its a bugger and I have ordered a new seal from BWM and will hammer the @@@k out of it within reason. Yes my problem only raised its head when I put 3/4 tank of fuel in - so this time I will leave the seat out for a day or two and be 100% the seal is right --

    Changing Stock Radio Options

Now that I have found a replacement OEM BMW head unit (Business with Cassette) I would like to upgrade the speakers, perhaps in rear parcel shelf - maybe front doors. I note the rear parcel shelf speakers have to be removed from the top as no access below. I have no idea what make of speakers are in the rear parcel shelf and I dont want to go digging until I have some idea whats involved and what speakers are worth buying - I know speakers are an easy way to improve sound quality, I am not looking for zillions of watts of power and the car lighting up when I am playing my Miles Davis or John Coltrane collection - not into the "Drum'n Bass" at my tender age.. - but I do like good bass response Any pointers greatly appreciated - thank you Paul

    Fuel Pump Seal

Hi there and thanks for the contribution to this thread. I have experienced a similar problem and my error I think was I didn't fit a new seal on the secondhand fuel pump I purchased and I guess the old seal had been well compressed and perhaps had gone a little hard or brittle, I haven't removed the pump yet, I ordered a new seal from BMW (€10) genuine OEM part and hopefully that will cure the problem which only occurred when I put 3/4 of a tank of fuel in.. up to that I wasn't using the car that much and I am in the process of getting it ready for its NCT (MOT in UK) and I will be using the car as my daily driver. You seem to have bought a bad batch from your BMW dealer and I would be rightly hacked off and especially having to get a tow truck to get you home - I drove home with mine leaking as It was about 4km on country road - but concerned of a fire hazard. Yes the securing ring is a pain in the neck but its manageable - I hope to have the new seal on Monday and will tackle this next week - will update this thread and this time I will make sure this problem doesn't happen again and especially on a full tank - all part of lesson learned and we both get out of jail without too much cost.. Thanks for the heads up on the marker.. I will look for that and I will also check my new seal is "soft" material - before I fit. Watch this space Paul
  15. my car was in storage for a while before I purchased it - and lonely light surface rust underneath (not concerning as we dont use salt on the roads in winter in Ireland) and I will get at it over the Christmas break with the pneumatic nibbler and then some Owatrol rust preventative which I have used before - its excellent and very protective and preventative. The first job I did was new t/stat and full coolant flush, and fresh oil (fully synthetic), I also had to replace the gearbox selector switch which is a common problem when they get to 100K... its a works in progress car for me and it will be my daily driver - I am not a big mileage user, all local, albeit I am rural dweller and the roads are a challenge for wear and tear etc I used to own and E34/Estate 540 and that was a stunning car .. mind you BWM had to put a brand new engine in it -- started to use oil with back cylinder liners failing, it was a common problem with the 540.
