Now there's an idea! What did I not think of that

    iPhone connectivity

I've been having some issues with mine. I have an iPhone 6 running iOS 12.3.1 and I've had my car for about 2 months. The Bluetooth works really well 95% of the time and it plays apple music fine (as well as being able to search for tracks using the iDrive). However, every now and then it decides to default to the first track in my music library alphabetically when I've told it to pick another song (either using the search function; manually going through the lists of tracks using IDrive; or using Siri voice activation). It's a small thing but it was driving me bananas yesterday. It's the randomness of it that's annoying me and I cannot figure out why it isn't working as it should all of the time (it's maybe 1 in 6 times that it doesn't do what it is told, then it will work just fine the next time). That said, it's my only real gripe with the car in 2 months so I can't complain really. But if anyone has any ideas (other than disconnecting/reconnecting, which I've tried) then I would be all ears!

    Detailing Thread for G30/31

You didn’t see mine before it went in...filthy! The problem is, I know know what it can look like...mission will be to keep it looking that way

    Detailing Thread for G30/31

Thanks - yes the detailer really did earn his money. A really thorough job. It obviously looks great now in the sunshine but it really lifts the look of the car in the shade too. The sophisto grey is actually very dark in certain lights but the detailing has made it so much more glossy and good looking in those conditions. The wheels also look that little bit sharper now too (and should stay that way). Well, well worth the money!

    Detailing Thread for G30/31

Morning all. I thought I'd share the experience I've just had of getting a new car detail done. As per my posts above I spent a long time researching it, and now it's done I'm so pleased I did it. I got the following done: Multi-stage wash Chemically decontaminated A light tickle with the machine polisher to remove factory haze... Paintwork inspected and panel wiped Gtechniq Crystal Serum Light applied to paintwork Gtechniq G1 glass coating applied (but not on windscreen, to avoid wiper judder) Wheel faces protected with Gtechniq C5 Wheel Armour Leather surfaces protected with Gtechniq L1 Delighted with the result. Happy to share detailer's info (provided that doesn't contravene any advertising policies)!

Things I hate about my 5 series

I have sport seats in my G30 and they are absolutely brilliant, miles better than my last Audi A5. Fantastic for long and short journeys. I spent a long time debating on whether to spend c£2k on the nappa comfort seats...I'm sure they are excellent but you can't miss what you've never had! Only gripe really is that it's pretty disappointing that you need to pay extra for lumbar support on such an otherwise well specced car!

Red car warning icon in Eco Pro Mode

    Thanks all - much appreciated.

Red car warning icon in Eco Pro Mode

That's the one, thanks. Yet when it has flashed up I've been some distance away from other cars... bizarre. Do you find that it comes on regularly?
  9. Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere, but once or twice in the last few days I've had a big red car icon flash up in the middle of my display when using the eco pro mode. Basically it comes on when I'm coasting towards a roundabout or junction say at about 20mph. It flashes up once then goes away. There's no noticeable issue with braking or anything else. It's a 19 plate G30 and I've only done c1400 miles. When searching for info online the best explanation I got was that it comes on when there is a "brake system malfunction". Has anyone else encountered this and if so what did you do about it?

    Insurance Advice

Depends on the quantum really but it might make you feel a bit better to make a claim and at least see some value for paying those premiums each year Either way it’s a frustrating situation - hope you come out the other side soon!!

    Insurance Advice

Sorry to hear about your predicament. I'm (sadly) inclined to agree with everything Spreadly has said. It seems unjust that mere notification of an accident - even if you weren't at fault/even in your vehicle - would have the effect of potentially raising your premium but I'm afraid it often does. I had a situation a year or so ago when a lorry look off my wing mirror about 15 seconds after I'd parked on a main road (it was scary...to say the least...as at the time I was looking at the mirror to check if it was safe to open the door)! It was reported to both insurers as lorry driver fault so and it didn't affect my protected NCB. However my renewal premium was a bit higher than it should have been the next year - fortunately though I just called and threatened to leave and - lo and behold - they cut the premium by nearly 20%. It's probably best for now just to draw a line under it and move on; it's not worth the grief and raised blood pressure.

New G31 owner - first impressions

I deleted the MSport suspension on mine and even with 19inch run flat tyres the ride is really smooth. I laboured for hours and hours on whether to go for VDC and in the end I didn't. Whilst I don't of course know how much smoother it would have been with VDC, what I do know is that I'm pleased I spent my remaining budget on the xDrive instead of the VDC. The same goes for comfort seats - I didn't get them and I am not sad in the least about that as the standard sport seats are fantastic. My first impressions are also extremely positive. I do a mix of driving - motorway and city centre - and I'm averaging 47mpg from 750 miles. I'm very happy with that! The performance is unreal when you need it but when I'm just cruising around it is ridiculously comfortable. The HK system is very good too - well worth the upgrade for anyone who likes their music (not just loud music - it's nicely balanced and crisp even at low volumes). Superb piece of kit all round!

    Collection advice

Thanks for all the advice. Collection went really well - literally no damage and everything exactly as ordered. Fantastic car - I’ve posted a few images on the photos thread!
  14. Evening all I’m delighted to share some pictures of my new pride and joy, my first ever BMW. I went for a 530d x-drive in Sophisto Grey after ridiculous amounts of prevarication. I’m absolutely thrilled with it. Great power when needed and I’ve averaged 47.7 mpg from the first 600 miles! Colour is superb - really light and sparkly in the sunshine but dark and moody looking in the dark. I was a little apprehensive about the colour but it’s really nice. All round top motor!
