I got this one - the scissor type. It has a engagement plate that looks the same size as the jack pad, so hopefully it will work. Will post an update when it arrives. It's officially for 2000-2006 X5: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2000-2006-BMW-X5-E53-EMERGENCY-CAR-LIFT-JACK/133613450696?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 The jack pad I used - I originally bought for my E61 - they are definitely interchangeable.

Good call on the nylon coated sockets. I just bought this from Amazon: https://amzn.to/3sFIgMU Pricey but worth it to protect the alloys. Hadn't thought about using tie-wraps - thanks for that too

So today I tested out the eBay spacesaver spare wheel that I bought last week. Here's what I found if it helps anyone (fitting to my 2017 G31 5 series estate with M Sport brakes): - It fits! Good start. Just clears the M Sport brakes - the guy at BMW was right any smaller than 18" and it would have fouled on them. - The jack is generic and doesn't directly fit the jacking points. You could probably use it in an emergency but it would probably damage the plastic sill trim. I used it with a rubber jacking pad and it did the job. I have now ordered a second hand BMW genuine jack off eBay as that will fit directly. - The extendible wrench is good but the nuts that it comes with are the wrong size. You need 17mm socket on it. It's also useful to have a spare 1/2" short extender to aid undoing the nuts quickly once they're loose. - You definitely need to pack a kneeling pad, headtorch and disposable rain poncho in your kit bag - You need a seperate bag for the jack and tools to stop them bouncing around and making a racket in your boot. I bought this from Amazon today which looks like it will do the trick: https://amzn.to/3o1g7fQ - Probably a good idea to get folding wheel chocks too. I got these: https://amzn.to/3bSfLWp Here are some pics in case they help anyone:

Thanks - so when it goes to "charge" that's just straightforward charging the battery then? Seems a bit misleading..
-
Ok - interesting. Mine's a 530d - this is the speedo in eco mode - is this not mild hybrid?
-
My wheels are currently 20", checked and they can go down to 18" but not lower - the wheel would foul on the M-Sport brakes. It could go lower if it wasn't for that. I've bought this off ebay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/18-BMW-5-SERIES-2017-2020-K-O-M-SPACE-SAVER-SPARE-WHEEL-AND-TYRE-KIT/153405073694?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649 Which looks like it will do the trick. Now to source some 18" wheels as well - at least now I can get rid of runflats and have a quieter, smoother ride :-)
-
Ah ok - that must mean that mine is not mild hybrid.. That's odd as I thought all of the G chassis 5 series were?
-
Does anyone know please? Also - is a software update needed as well? Many thanks,
-
I know - it's a pain. I spent ages looking for one with heated steering but the odd one that did have it wasn't any good because of other things that weren't specified.. I ended up with a really high spec G31 but without heated steering.. go figure
-
Would anything else (relays / wiring loom etc) need updating to upgrade to a heated wheel? I've found one on ebay but don't want to commit unless it's straighforward...
-
You should be ablet to turn it off - there's a button underneath the starter button for this. Or edit your driving mode to disable (when you put it into the standard Sport mode it disables start / stop).
-
Yep - from what I've seen having done quite a bit of digging, the only cars that these wheels will be interchangeable on are G30, G31 and the 2017 onwards X5 The G31 definitely doesn't have a spacesaver option at all in the UK. I'm guessing the X5 does.. Does the G30 5 series saloon have it as an option? Many thanks,

About 6 months into owning a G31 5 Series 3L diesel estate - it's a good upgrade from my old E60. There's just one catch... Everyone that rides in the G31 comments on how the ride is much bumpier than the old E60 - it has 20 inch wheels. I made a mental note to get smaller wheels at some point and then just before Christmas got 2 punctures on potholes in the same week.. Runflats were very little use sadly - they got me off the motorway, but one didn't make it home, the other did but only as I drove at 40mph which is really dangerous on the motorway. I know that 50mph is supposed to be ok, but it wasn't on the first one - the ride went very bumpy and noisy and I got towed.. Turns out that BMW don't ever fit space saver spare wheels to these cars as they don't fit in the boot. I am happy to get a spacesaver and toolkit and keep it in a bag in the boot - would much rather that than have to wait 4 hours for the RAC on Christmas eve again.. Looking at Realoem.com the toolkit is here: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=JN52-EUR-03-2017-G31-BMW-530dX&diagId=71_0903 and the spare wheel is here: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=JN52-EUR-03-2017-G31-BMW-530dX&diagId=36_2302 I'm guessing they're listed as they are available in US cars? My question is: does anyone know what other cars these 18" spacesaver wheels are fitted on as standard? That way it would be easy to look on ebay for a breaker that has one rather than pay silly money to BMW for all new bits. Thanks in advance

Strange Noise from N47 Engine on Acceleration
Jonhamil replied to Jonhamil's topic in E60/E61 2004-2010
Went to do it today and found one of the bolts holding the turbo to the manifold was loose. I must not have torqued it up when I swapped the turbo.. Torqued all up - sounds ok so far, taking for a long run tomorrow - we'll see.. -
