What did you do to your F07/F10/F11 today?

Basic snow foam pressure wash and gave the wheels a good going over with a wheel brush. Took out the front floor mats and gave them a clean with the pressure washer and the windows/screen got a good clean on the inside. Booked in for MOT next Friday. Hard to believe it's almost a year since I bought the F11. Still enjoying every mile I drive in it.

    Diesel grades

I've experimented with V-Power, BP Ultimate, Esso Supreme and Gulf Endurance. My experience has shown me little discernable difference in running or mpg between any of these 'Premium grades over the more affordable alternatives. Maybe after 3 or 4 tanks full I'd notice more something but apart from using V-Power exclusively for 3 weeks/2000 miles I've only ever used one tank at a time. The V-powder experiment yielded only a marginal difference in the power/weight ratio of the car+driver combination given that my wallet was considerably lighter. I found the engine seemed to be a little more noisy after a cold start using Gulf Endurance. After a few minutes it quientened down again. Apart from that it was all the same. I've nothing against supermarket diesel. I ran my old Passat exclusively on it for 6 years over 100000 miles without issue but since buying the F11 I've avoided them out of a probably misguided idea that I'm treating it to something a little more special, in much the same way as I'm washing it once or twice a week with Bilt Hamber stuff as opposed to the once a year with Turtle wax from Halfords the Passat had to endure. I'm currently using regular Gulf diesel because that's what they sell at at the garage I drive past most often and it's only 2p more expensive than the supermarkets round here. The car seems quite happy on it so I don't see the point paying the extra. If anything I'd be more tempted to use some Forte/Archoil once in a while.

    Ambient lighting F11 LCI

How often do you see are driving along with their rear fog lights on when there is no sign of any fog? People put them on thinking they need them but forget to turn them off, or fail to notice when they're no longer needed. Have you ever been dazzled by someone parked in a side road, in a lay-by on the other side of the road, facing oncoming traffic outside the paper shop etc because they have left their headlights on when they could/should have switched to sidelights? Auto headlights are all very well but the car doesn't know whether it's waiting at traffic lights or parked facing oncoming traffic at the paper shop. Some people are inattentive enough at the wheel already. Auto headlights just give them an opportunity to pay even less attention to what they're doing with their car.

2015 F10 PPS uncoding after accident

Great write up. Thanks for sharing in such great detail. I now feel I know a little more of the dark art of coding. Must see about getting hold of a trustworthy version of E-SYS. I've a couple of things I'd like to try coding when I get round to it.

    Ambient lighting F11 LCI

My 530d 2014 LCI car has ambient lighting switched on without using the lights in auto position. Not sure what the difference would be on your car. Mine isn't an expolice car either so it's nothing to do with that. I know my ambient lighting alters it's brightness when you adjust the dash light brightness. If all else fails have you tried adjusting the wheel next to right switch? As an aside, I don't like auto lights either for the same reason as @HandyAndy_UK but Mrs CP loves them and can't see why anyone would not want to use them

    Which Oil

Just to say, I bought some of that last year. The seller was very helpful and easy to deal with in spite of an Ebay system error which made the transaction less than straightforward. I'd certainly recommend the seller. The oil seems fine too. I've done two services with it so far and my engine has had no complaints. Tescos also have some on special offer occasionally for a good price Same price as the Adsa stuff mentioned above.

    520D Hesitant/ Stalling

I would say to contact the seller first, depending on the shadyness of the dealer in question. I bought a car a few years ago from a dealer who said if any problems developed with the car not to take it anywhere else first or they'd refuse any warranty claim, the reasoning being if anyone else touches the car there's no guarantee they haven't done something to cause the fault. As it turned out that dealer had no intention of honouring any warranty claims as I found to my cost.

    Broken spring or airbag?

You should be able to reset the service warnings yourself using the tripmeter button at the bottom left corner of the dashboard. Just Google BMW service indicator reset or something like that. I think the service interval needs to be over 90% expired before the car will let you do that. I changed my oil and filter recently and reset the service warnings.it now reads 22000 but I'll be changing it again well before that. If you want to keep the service history updated so it shows on the idrive screen you need to have that done by someone with access to BMWs system. A BMW dealer might do it for you but charge an arm and a leg but if you know an independent BMW specialist they should be able to do it for much less, if anything. They might want to see receipts for oil, filters and other service items so they can be reasonably sure the work's been done. You could just keep a record on paper but it's nice to have it on the screen as well. I'm taking mine to get updated with a few things I've done soon.

    new springs, leaking shocks

I agree with @HandyAndy_UK People fit shorter springs to their cars all the time without issues. Maybe if the springs were so far away from OEM length to cause the shocks to over extend/compress but that would be really obvious and any decent mechanic would surely notice and warn of the consequences if you insisted on going ahead

What did you do to your F07/F10/F11 today?

I just got the standard activated carbon one, same as I put in the F11 a while ago. We live in rural S. W. Scotland and although we have the odd trip up to Glasgow now and then most of our driving is done in good clean country air

What did you do to your F07/F10/F11 today?

Just ordered 3 Mahle oil filters to keep our cars going for the next year. Ordered through Autodoc with 24% off so have also bought Mahle cabin filters and air filter for Mrs CPs F20 which will be good to have in hand. Total for all that was £67 inc £8 delivery. For comparison Opie Oils price was £79 with free delivery and Euro Car Parts £79 for Mann filters. I'm quite happy at that

What did you do to your F07/F10/F11 today?

Thanks Matthew. I managed to do it via the dashboard without needing to get in to the 'secret' menu but I'll bear ISTA in mind for the future. The car now says it needs its next oil service in 22000 miles. I think 10000 will be quite enough. Will have a look in the secret menu later to see if it's possible to change the defult distance to something more engine friendly. Happy New Year to all on the forum.

What did you do to your F07/F10/F11 today?

Oil and filter change today, 10040 miles since the last. Instead of just using the vacuum pump to remove the old oil like I did last time I jacked up the the car on the front right jacking point to get more oil to flow to where the vacuum pump could reach it and sucked out as much as was possible. Then jacked the car up on the centre front jacking point, put some stands under the side front jacking points and crawled underneath to remove the sump plug and then let the car down again to see how much more I could get out. There was close enough to 7 litres just from vacuuming, I didn't measure what drained from the sump plug but from looking at what was in the catch pan I reckon another 250ml or so. I think I've poured 7 litres of fresh oil back in but it's still only just up to the bottom mark on the stick so maybe erring on the side of caution and not quite put the full 7 in. I'll keep an eye on it and top up as required. Also replaced the broken sump plug cover while I was at it. Still need to find out how to reset the oil service indicator on the idrive. There's still 1500 miles left until the car thinks it's due so not sure I can reset through the secret menu until after that. Perhaps I can use ISTA to do it sooner. Will go and do a bit more research.

    Heavy rain, Water leak

Here you go... https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/ It's a bit like an online Haines manual. Lots of useful info there. You can use the last 7 characters of your VIN to bring up a mine of useful info and guides specific to your car.

Sounds like nothing much to be concerned about then. I'll just delete it next time I'm there. Thanks Matthew. Have a good Christmas
