The car was registered 4 Jan 2002 reg number is ET51 BCZ. Mileage is genuine. Lovely car, awesome colour, nice example and well presented, I would be comfortable offering 20K for it but no more unless my numbers come up on the Lottery !

    525i Saloon rear brake pipes

I got an advisory on the rear brake pipes at MOT time last year so going to replace them before next MOT is due. The pipes are good up to the point on the OSR where they disappear up around the arch and across over the fuel tank. Will do them all at the rear while I am at it, looks like a tank out job to me. The fuel pipes on the NS dont look to good where they pass through the mounting clamps so will replace those also. Anyone done this ? where's the best place to get new pipes ? can't see much on ebay.

    Heaters very hot...

I had a similar problem, first thing to check is the two small dash air intake vents below the temp up / down buttons. If these are blocked with at least 15 yrs of dust, the heater sensors behind dont work properly. Shove a vacuum cleaner up against them and suck the dust out. Did this to mine and the heater has worked perfectly since. Hope it helps.

    Android headunits

The Eonon units fully integrate with the cars Canbus system, its plug and play, no special wiring or adapters required and your steering wheel buttons all work. If your referring to the computer display for MPG, average speed etc, then this is re set by the button on the end of the indicator stalk. The Android head unit is not connected to this display so will not affect it.

    Steering rack oil leak

Had the car up on a ramp yesterday and noticed a bit of oil dripping off the RH steering rack boot. Does anyone know if the seals inside can be replaced or is it a new / recon rack job ? Cheers.

    530i ROAD NOISE ?

Greetings to the forum. I'm new on here and thinking of buying a nice low mileage E39 530i. I am looking for a quiet and comfortable car, performance, looks and economy are low on the list of concerns. I am very fussy about road noise in the cabin from the tyres. I have not driven one yet so I am looking for some feedback on this. No interest at all for big fancy rims and elastic bands for tyres. Looking for a car with 15 inch rims and 60 or 70 profile tyres. Maybe 16 inch but no bigger. Please let me know your thoughts on your cars road noise and please do confirm what make and size tyres you have fitted. Also, does the 530i have power fold mirrors ? This might be required to get it in my garage ! Thanks. Buster.

    530i ROAD NOISE ?

Hi Marc. No need for a stiffer rear ARB, my focus on this project is comfort, not handling, my boy racer days are long gone and I drive the car quite sedately, the very rare occasions I might push it it a bit, the standard Sport ARB's hold the car well enough. I had the SE ARB's on for a while with the SE struts, very wafty which I actually enjoyed ! I put the Sport ARB's back on for comparison purposes. The SE ARB's might go back on, not decided yet. Will get some pictures up as soon as I can.

    530i ROAD NOISE ?

An update on project "Magic Carpet" on my 525i Sport. After much experimenting with shocks, springs and ARB combinations in the summer, I settled on new SE spec front & rear struts complete and the original Sport ARB's and 16 in style 50's with new Avon ZV7 225/55/16. The Sport ARB's hold the car flat when cornering in a hurry but I now have the lovely uber comfy ride that the SE offers without the rolly wafty feel. Full double glazing has gone in and all doors lined with Dynamat when the vapour barriers were resealed and full covering of extra soundproofing under the bonnet. A new door seal set on the OSF to cure some persistent wind noise and all very quiet inside now. A new Android head unit and upgraded speakers to JBL's front & rear. Lovely quality audio sound now complements the absence of ambient noise from wind & traffic. Very pleased with the end result and I feel I now have best of both worlds with the Sport & SE E39 saloon. I have, of course, now gained the extra ride height I needed to stop the belly of the car scraping on my driveway / pavement hump. The horrid thumpy, teeth rattling ride has gone !! A bit of tweaking required on the rear suspension, not quite happy with the stance, a bit too arse up at the rear so considering coilovers for the rear that I can adjust so the car sits level. I might just pull off the rear struts again and send the coil springs Faulkner Springs to be shortened slightly. Any members have any recommendations on soft rear coilovers that will not compromise the lovely comfy ride I have achieved ? My style 66 staggered wheels are in for refurb and will go back on in the summer with 20mm spacers when I have decided on which tyres to fit. I like the Avons so might stick with them in 17 in flavour.

Radio interference with led angle eyes

I fitted these, no problems with radio interference but do get random flashing when engine running, I have been advised that this is caused by the Canbus system cold check and can be coded out. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2x-Angel-Eyes-Halo-LED-Light-Bulb-For-BMW-E39-E87-E60-E63-E65-E66-E53-E83-UK/123153441272?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

    LED Angel Eyes random flashing

Bought these LED bulbs for the Angel Eyes, fitted OK and look great when on but the car was in the drive yesterday engine running & lights off I noticed the new LED side light flashing intermittently. Anyone come across this ? is it a known issue ? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2x-Angel-Eyes-Halo-LED-Light-Bulb-For-BMW-E39-E87-E60-E63-E65-E66-E53-E83-UK/123153441272?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

    Android headunits

5ADay, just ignore any negativity about them, nothing lasts forever and over the last 40 yrs I have had top brands like Sony, Alpine, Pioneer etc fail prematurely and no support. I have had a Eonon in my daily Focus for years, no problems, put one in my E39 last year and loving it. Many of my mates in the local motor club have them, no issues at all. In fact if my unit went bang when out of warranty I would simply buy another one straight away and not lose a minutes sleep about it. I've seen owners raving about them on the E39 FB page and not seen one negative post on Eonon, Xtrons etc. No point in debating which ones best, they all come out of the same factory and just rebranded. We all have to take an element of risk in buying anything these days, I recently had to return a £1000 Sony Bravia 55in 4K TV due to problems, the replacement was the same ! Now on set number 3 and finally all is well. Going Chinese on these head units is no more risky than any other make and their functionality is most excellent and just keeps getting better. Enjoy your new system 5ADay !

    Android headunits

5ADay, they really are superb aren't they ! Unfortunately the Chinese units got a bad rep due to poor reliability and customer support when they appeared on the market a few years ago. I think this is what Dennis is referring to. Things have moved on and the reliability and quality is now spot on. AudioTech Direct in N. Wales are doing an excellent job with the Eonon units and their service is most excellent. I recently returned a unit to them for repair due to my own stupidity with a cheque to cover the postage as the fault was of my making. They repaired the unit, added start screen BMW ///M logos that I requested and returned the unit with my cheque un-cashed all free of charge. Very impressed with ATD. JimJam. Any queries should be directed to James at ATD, he is on the ball and answer all your questions. Contact them through their web site here. https://audiotechdirect.com/ Or webcs@audiotechdirect.com
  17. I will be fitting a full DG window set soon. Anyone replaced the small rear door windows, they are bonded in I spotted this removal tool kit on Amazon. https://www.amazon.co.uk/OUkANING-Windshield-Professional-Windscreen-Disassembly/dp/B07BDJ65ZF/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1538846969&sr=1-1&keywords=Automotive+bonded+glass+window+removal+tool# Looking at this stuff to re bond the new rear DG units. https://www.amazon.co.uk/wayside-Campervan-Windscreen-Bonding-Adhesive/dp/B00DHI1WR2/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1538847207&sr=1-1-fkmr0&keywords=masterbond+glass+side+window+adhesive If anyone has tackled this job, please post here. Thanks.
  18. Been looking for a double glazing kit for my 525i saloon. Not much out there and what I found so far the asking price is laughable. So, I have a cunning plan, a plan so cunning, the sly fox with an honours degree in the art of cun would be very proud of ! I found an SE saloon breaking locally and I can get all six side windows for a tenner each. I'm thinking I should grab these, take my windows out and take everything to a good double glazing unit manufacturer and have them seal them together. If I can find the correct thickness and all the guide channel rubbers, weather strips & seals etc, I may be in business ! I am now working in the aircraft parts recycling business and I was handling double glazed Airbus cockpit window units today and it gave me the idea. What do you chaps think ?
  19. Busterbvi

An update for you chaps, the project is a non starter, I picked up a full DG set with all the rubbers, guides and seals today for £300, well pleased ! However, I am confident it can be done DIY if the right bits can be found.

    Nice mint 530i. £2,750 !!!

This minter popped up on AutoTrader today, 32k on the clock, nice rims, sunroof, Xenons, one of the last ones made, all for £2,750 !! looks like a steal to me ! https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201809291001763?radius=1500&model=5 SERIES&quantity-of-doors=4&year-from=2000&onesearchad=Used&onesearchad=Nearly New&onesearchad=New&advertising-location=at_cars&year-to=2004&maximum-mileage=80000&make=BMW&price-to=10000&sort=datedesc&postcode=cf624pd&fuel-type=Petrol&price-from=1000&page=1 Very tempted myself, anyone looking for a nice 525i Sport !!!

    Factory Xenons to LED

Probably been asked before. My car is fitted with factory Xenons, they are not bad but wondering if changing to LED's on the high and low beams would be any better ? Would appreciate any links to good bulbs. Cheers.
  22. Project 'Magic Carpet' is underway and I would like to hear from SE saloon owners who have found nice quiet and comfortable 16 in tyres in 225/55/16 flavour. I drive the car quite sedately so any tyre will be good enough in terms of grip, braking, wear, cost etc so only interested in comments on tyre road noise inside the car at this time. I did a trawl on this some time ago on here and got some good feedback. I will be ready to pull the trigger soon on a new set so I just wanted to throw the question out there again for some discussion from new members or those members that may have missed it. Thanks. B.

SE Saloon quiet tyres - some feedback please.

Thanks for the input, most tyres are quiet on new smooth tarmac, how are your P3's on the "normal" UK roads ? What size are you running ? Cheers.

SE Saloon quiet tyres - some feedback please.

Can you let me know your thoughts on interior road noise from these P3's on various road surfaces ? Thanks.

SE Saloon quiet tyres - some feedback please.

Thanks for the reply, would you go as far as to say they are silent on all roads ?
