  1. Hi all, the flexi hose connector between my downpipes/backbox was picked up as having a slight leak last time I had it in the garage and it has been on my to do list for a while, found this kit on ebay that looks simple enough to install. Has any one else done a similar repair that can offer any advice on any issues I may encounter whilst attempting this? https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F111539606733
  2. Just having a deep clean of the car and pulled the boot apart to hoover out and found about 3" of water in the battery well, luckily just around the base of the battery not actually hitting any of the electrics. No obvious signs of where its coming from, any suggestions of where to check?? Also should there be some kind of drain in there? I removed all the water but cant see any obvious drain points, should the battery well be sealed completley?

    Flood in the battery well

Checked the vent, it seems to be fine. Had a cursory check of the light and it seems ok too although I will need to take it off to check properly later on. On the plus side the battery well is still bone dry since I dried it all out and I have washed the car pretty thorougly since so its likey that build up had happened over a good perid of time, its got to be at least 4 months since I last opened the battery compartment.

Sorry, should have said, E60 520D, no sunroof.
  5. Just got the call for mine to go in. Got it booked for 11 Nov.
  6. Im getting a recurring '93B2' fault see picture (not fussed about the other 2 faults at this stage). Very irritating as the Idrive decides to remind you every 20 seconds and block your clock, date and temp displays whilst it is active even if you acknowledge it. I have tried clearing it with Carista but it comes back immediatley, does anyone know what I can do to ideally fix the fault but as a fall back just get the f**king Idrive to shut up about it!! Any help would be most appreciated.

What did you do to your E60/61 today?

I generally dont flush when I change the oil, this is the first time I have on this car, just thought as she has recently hit 170k miles she might deserve it!

What did you do to your E60/61 today?

Na, no sludge that I could see. This is my first BMW and Ive never really seen any come out in the 4 oil changes I have done on it, every 7-8000k miles.

Engine flush then changed Oil/filter, fuel filter, pollen filters & air filter! Should keep me going for a while!!!
  10. Has anyone had any experience with installing an Android system in lieu of the I drive CCC? I have seen the one at the link below and am tempted, but have a few questions for anyone who has used one. 1/how easy are they to install? This claims 30 mins plug & play. 2/Do I still have full functionality of the I drive controller and steering wheel controls? 3/How easy is the navigation system to update and how do you go about this? Any advice is welcomed! https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.de%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F232480158939

    What warning is this?

Im sure this is what came up when I had a 'transmission fault' which was a precursor to my torque converter going.

    DIY aircon recharge

Need to recharge my AC in the E60, and was looking at the DIY kits in Halfords any just wondering if anyone has used them (or similar) and if they are worth trying or should I just bite the bullet and get a garage to do it?

    DIY aircon recharge

Wouldnt grace Kwik Fit with my business if they were the last garage in the country!!!

    DIY aircon recharge

Just not something I have ever dealt with before so have zero idea when it comes to AC systems. Think I am just going to get it done at the local place near me, the guy says he will leak test etc first so think I will go for that. The kit in Halfords sounded ok on paper, claims it would refil an average system 3 times but not sure how true that is?!?

    DIY aircon recharge

Yeah fair point, I never thought about if there were leaks or anything or the cleaning etc. I doubt the car has had an aircon recharge or clean so far so its probably not a bad idea. A local place near me offers a full aircon service and recharge for £49.99 so think I will just get it booked in there.
  16. Been on holiday for 2 weeks, come back and give my E60 a once over before heading off and find this big b**tard has made himeself well at home in the engine bay!!

    winter wheels

I have an E60 520d LCI, i swap out my 18" alloys for a set of 16" steel rims with Dunlop Wintersport M3 runflats. Much like Andrew above I was sceptical about winter tires and had never used any on any other car but got strongly advised to get a set for the BMW with the RWD, so glad I did as I had a few slips in the morning winter ice with my summer rubber on. Well worth it.
  18. Just left him too it!! If he can hold on whilst Im gunning it down the motorway at 70 (because I always observe the speed limit! ) then fair play to him, he can stay!

What did you do to your E60/61 today?

Replaced the windscreen wiper arm bearing that disintegrated!! Also replaced both wiper blades for good measure after they got bent after the catastrophic failure of the bearing. You forget how good a new set of wipers are after getting used to a worn set!
  20. It has its own parking distance sensor display that also shows the image from the rear camera if fitted.

    Vibration above 60mph

Just noticed that my 520D auto has developed a bit of a vibration above 60mph. Its not too severe and im not 100 sure exactly where its coming from, feels like its coming from the front as I can feel it through the pedals but again not really sure. Any ideas?

    Vibration above 60mph

I think I am starting to lean towards a bearing being the culprit here, on my commute in today I went with the raido off all the way and I think It sounds like one or more of them may be dodgy. The best way to describe the sound I hear is like a washing machine drum winding up to speed for the spin cycle if that makes sense? Not sure if that would be a bearing? Going to get it into the garage this week in any case.

    Vibration above 60mph

Yeah, I did the pads/disks myself at the tail end of the summer last year the hub facings were clean enough but I did give them a quick scrub with a wire brush. I have had an ill fitting brake disk on my old passat before ut I only really got the judder in the steering wheel when the brakes were applied with that. As I said I wont rule out the brakes completley until I can get it to my buddy's garage and get it checked out properly but I think from the sounds of things its more likley bearings or suspension related.

    Vibration above 60mph

Cant rule it out but I doubt it is the brakes as I had pads and discs put in all round less than a year ago.
