xDrive, whether on the X cars or our G3x cars, has a 50:50 front/rear split when initially driving in a straight line. It is however, infinitely variable depending on the conditions so when cornering it may send 80% of the power to the rear wheels. Not sure where Autocar got its data from but it’s not exactly right.
I'd beg to differ on this one:
As I understand it and was explained to me at great brain busting length by a ZF Techy: The torque distribution is set by the gearbox using an electronically controlled clutch pack. Default 40:60

There is actually a great page on Wikipedia, (of all places) that explains it way better than I ever could!
The references cited are worth following too.

Carrera77 reacted to FMIB in G31: Rear Door Seals - water ingress
In the 3 years or so I owned a 540i G31, I never had an issue with water coming in from the rear doors, so I am not sure this is a fault in all G31's as you imply.
I don't have a solution for you, but if a new set of seals did not resolve the issue, then maybe the door is slightly out of alignment/not closing tightly enough.
I did have an issue once with the front door handles freezing up after getting wet, but I think many cars can suffer from this

Americans are neurotic about oil changes but even they are coming around to fully synthetic oil..  Fully synthetic is man made oil for lubrication,  it does not carry additional compounds that are the cause of sludging..  Its a similar in idea to efuels,  what Porsche was talking about

Frequent oil changes were one way of inspecting a car , getting it up on a ramp etc.. Its understandable that going two years without a cursory inspection is a cause of concern
But we now have sensors that keep track of most things - like low tyre pressure etc

But its fully synthetic engine oil..   Fully synthetic oil doesnt degrade..

It retains its multi-grade qualities while more conventional oils tend to become single grade after a while

Plus I'm sure they know what they are doing

Even if its motorway miles, at 100k plus there are additional service points that need to be done. These aren't necessarily included in the service schedule

I've had wheels refurbished on my wife's Celica at City Wheel Refurbishment in Birmingham. They are very cheap and do a reasonable job. They straightened the inner flanges on 2 of the wheels for a very nominal extra charge. They were fully painted ones at the basic price. As you would expect, diamond cut incur an extra charge.

My winter tyres home, had a small shed made with space for them as didn’t want them in my garage taking up space.

while I currently have 18 inch winter set up and 20 inch summer, once my winter tyres are worn out. They will be replaced with cross climates all season tyres, which I feel are safer option in the UK, due to how variable our weather is over winter, in a single week you can experience -1c and then 2 days later it is 14c, before dropping back to 3c two days after that again.

I certainly notice at above 12c my pure winter tyres don’t feel as stable as I would like at motorway speeds.

On my F10 RWD I ran cross climates for a whole year, amazing in snow / ICE and also great in the sun on 22c days, brilliant tyre.

As above posters rightly point out, spec is individual preference.

You did mention “M Sport performance” I’m not sure what you meant by this but the M Sport model will not have better performance over an SE in terms of power, 0-62 etc. This is just a trim level. It may be more rigid and handle more sporty vs a softer damped SE model but that’s about it.

they are both 520d’s and in fairness, the newer 2017 car will have the newer B47 engine which in my opinion is considerably better rounder and feels nippier than the older 2014 car would with the older engine

Not 5 series related, but my G20 from new felt almost like it was crabbing. I fought hard with BMW to get it checked / adjusted for free...and the mechanic was adamant it was fine when taking on a test drive. The results when they finally caved and put it on the KDS machine are clear - rear wheel alignment was quite badly out.

the G30 has 5 link suspension on the rear wheels, which means only 1 degree of freedom i.e. up down movement . So loading the car should just push the wheel up into the wheel well. Thats passenger load not batteries

if there is extra weight from the batteries etc the springs will be uprated

    thats the theory anyway

If your wheels are wearing unevenly, it would be best practice to correct the alignment after changing the tyre set, or as soon as possible

Otherwise the same uneven wear will be repeated on the new tyres .  The tyre will be like that permanently

what does the official BMW car jack look like ?  seems to be two types - articulated ( with a screw) ,and scissor (the generic jack) . Neither are listed as appropriate for my car on the BMW shop

the scissor jack looks exactly like your generic jack. I think that jacking pads are the way to go

There is a lot of plastic under these cars so so it indeed pays to be careful

ahh so the doors must have been locked

so the only possibility is the boot was open, but the thief was nice enough to shut it. Maybe the coins he found pleased him

Fortunately if the boot opens, the car doors remain locked if they were locked previously. I guess you can open them from the inside but its a bit of fumbling around

when I first got a BMW with comfort access (around 3 yrs ago) I had inadvertently sat on the unlock button for a long time, and it opened everything - boot , sunroof, all the windows.  And it started to rain. Fortunately a mystified neighbour spotted that  as well

Sorry to hear you've been broken into, ref the accidental key press, the car will re lock after a short duration if you don't physically open the door/boot. So unlikely to be that scenario unless you were really unlucky with timings of someone walking past (highly unlikely I'd have thought)

Comfort access again is secure and based on pretty close proximity so again I'd say that was unlikely.

You could potentially open the boot from the key and obviously that would stay open though.

I often inadvertently leave mine unlocked and a few months ago a neighbour knocked on the door late one evening to tell me I'd left the boot open!

    It's an age thing.

I keep a tyre inflator in my car for this purpose - the kind that you plug into a lighter. I store it in the under compartment that you get in the G31s (and also G21s) boot so its out of the way/

It worked when I got a puncture late at night with 30 miles to go. I kept stopping to pump up the tyre. Better than waiting on the roadside . But of course it depends on how bad the puncture is. Usually they are fairly slow

100% design not function. There’s a growing trend towards lighting and fog lights are sooooo last decade!

My G31 doesn’t have them which initially really irked me. But after 6 months I’m over it and I’m not bothered by them “missing”.

The icon lights make the front of my car, not some unlit fogs.

I got a 330i G21  -  had it for about 10 days.  Haven't gone on any long trips in it
    - Both petrols (320i and 330i ) are very smooth and responsive . At idle, you cant tell if its on or not. The refinement is just a generation ahead.  The 320d in contrast does transmit diesel vibrations .
    - the handling is excellent, it really takes small roundabouts well and there are a lot of them around here.
    - it feels powerful and snappy - you get the push from the RWD which is nice.  Probably doesnt have raw power like the 340i, but thats x-drive.

    Annoying features
    - fake engine noise which I'm looking to code out . There should be an option to cancel on the ID7
    - the boot cover doesnt not attach to the boot lid , and it ends up blocking the rear view. Have to get used to it

Previous car was a G31 530d xdrive SE. The G21 is like 300 kg lighter . The G31 was nice but a different experience - you sort of waft along in it . It would be nice to have both but I have to choose
