  1. I've just done an oil and coolant change and realised I have loads of fluids stacking up and need to get rid of them, which is easier said than done. some Googling suggests the following: Engine oil can go to my local recycling centre, 5 litres at a time. I have about 25 litres to get rid of. Old Coolant including three flushes I did today, go down the toilet apparently. Brake fluid gets poured into cat litter and let it evaporate off. ATF/power steering fluid hopefully can be mixed with engine oil. Does anyone know of better options? Edit: Car Batteries can go to your recycling centre or Scrapyards may take them and even pay for them.

    Oil Change

This essentially. Here's a 5w30 synthetic cheapo brand Vs top of the range Red Line Ester oil test. He hasn't got the lab equipment for a proper scientific test, but he does cover the real world properties.

    Recycling/Disposing of car fluids

They've banned vans from my local centre, so as to avoid trade waste. Not so great if you can borrow one from work to avoid messing your car up/need the loading space.

    Recycling/Disposing of car fluids

It doesn't, I was tempted to mix oily fluids with engine oil, whose to know when it's added to a gallon of black used engine oil. It's annoying there aren't better options when you're trying to be responsible. 5 litres of engine oil at a time? My car takes 6.5 and has changes every 7k. They wonder why fly tipping occurs.

    Py21w indicator led bulbs

I considered it, but £25 for canbus bulbs I don't need to replace yet, couldn't justify it. Just choose some with good reviews. https://www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk/581-twenty20-cree-led-12v-py21w-canbus-amber-bayonet-bulb.html

    Weird ABS/DSC error from nowhere?

Battery errors are possible, its also likely, the run flat/tyre pressure system thinks you have a flat as the wheel speeds aren't as expected. You may have a dodgy ABS sensor which is giving different wheel speeds Vs the other three wheels. Or you may have a dodgy wheel bearing that is giving an ABS error as the wheel speed for that wheel is off. Diagnosing cars over the internet that you can't see or drive is impossible. Jack the car up and check each wheel for play. ABS sensor next after that. A decent code reader will tell you what wheel to check.

    DISA valves on the n52

It's difficult when you have a list that needs doing. My BMW needs a new stat, wheels refurbed, new rear discs/pads/shoes. I purchased a cheap beater car for the daily commute to take the wear and tear off my E60. That needs lots of parts to make it respectable and road legal. Thank god it's cheap.

    Weird ABS/DSC error from nowhere?

First thing is to reset your tyre pressures in iDrive, if that doesn't work, Connect a code reader to the car and read the wheel speeds to see if you have an ABS sensor problem. Jack the car up again and check all 4 wheels for play, hold each wheel at 12 and 6 o'clock and again at 9 and 3 o'clock and try to rock each wheel.

    DISA valves on the n52

If something is an absolute twat to get to, go OEM. If it is reasonably accessible, by all means, consider other brands. I'd still go OEM quality though, Meyle/Mahle/Lemforder etc...
  12. Carly will not code out your SOS Assist, you'll need a laptop and cable with BMW software.

What did you do to your E60/61 today?

MOT'd it yesterday. Handbrake wasn't balanced because of corrosion inside the drum part of the disk.

Looking for a 530 sport. What to look for?

Why wouldn't you put it through an MOT to back up the asking price? Seems like something to hide to me...

My auto box has 120k on it, I did a spill and fill with Meyle fluid instead of ZF Lifeguard 6 and it hasn't missed a beat or generated a fault code since I've owned it. The auto box on my old E46 was fine too.

What did you do to your E60/61 today?

Buried my 4g wifi dongle in the dash for the android head unit. No more USB cigar adaptors etc. Gave it a vacuum too.

    520D Engine cover

This. Seriously, fitting a new engine is like a 10-hour job. There must be a better explanation.

    520D Engine cover

Why would a garage fit a different engine to the one fitted to your car without discussing it with you? Call the garage and ask for an explanation.

    Which e60/e61

I know I own one, but the 530i E60/E61 is the ideal BMW. No Swirl flaps, no DPFs, No EGRs as such, No Diesel Injectors or Controllers, It's not an N47 engine. It isn't an N53 with petrol direct injectors going tits up, high-pressure fuel pumps, No nox bullshit, it's not a 535i with the additional twin turbos to go tits up. It's not a V8 and additional expense involved with these plus the oil leaks etc. Look at the threads on here looking for help. The N52 is

I lucked out to be honest. I was buying a 530D and the bastard garage sold the car before I got there. Seething, I realised the tide was turning on diesels and a petrol 6 cyl BMW wasn't a bad option. Fuel economy wasn't that great of a difference, and because I had previously owned an oil burner that had injector problems, I knew a diesel might be an expensive proposition when my new commute was 12k a year on B roads. A six-cylinder with more beans than my 325ci E46 was required. A 258hp, with a years warranty and a new mot, was perfect. I adore that car. I won't lie, better than the 25mpg I'm getting thanks to my sprint booster and a heavy right foot would be nice, It's my own fault. I'm contemplating buying a beater car. high mpg, cheap winter tyres, low running costs, leaving the E60 for weekends and no salt on the roads.

Oi, you leave my N52 alone. Except for those pesky hydraulic valve lifters, it's an absolute peach of an engine. These guys know. https://www.wardsauto.com/news-analysis/wards-10-best-engines-2007
