  1. Spotted this morning, black E34 saloon with M525 badge on the back. Google indicates that there was such a thing as an M525 in Taiwan but that would have been LHD, so I'm assuming it was a custom badge? Looked pretty clean, gave the driver a grin and a thumbs up from my calypso E34 520 touring.

Are they really that bad? The one on my '95 works fine on FM and DAB (via a splitter).

If it's any consolation, I washed mine on Saturday then used it on Sunday to take my son and his friend to Brooklands to look at (and hear) some nice cars. Didn't spot any other E34s there, sadly.

Lined the ashtray with 2mm neoprene (not very tidy, but it will stop my charger and cable rattling in there): Replaced the footwell speakers (driver's side was a pain in the arse!): And supervised a wash:

    Subwoofer wiring

Considering the driver is only about 4" and it's installed under a padded wooden floor, it's not bad. It does need turning up quite loud to hear it much. And the bass drops off quite quickly with the higher frequencies. I couldn't find any specs online as the sub is usually supplied as part of a Bose sound system option in other cars (eg Mazda 6, Renault Kadjar, Audi Q7, Honda Integra(!), Nissan Murano, etc). Some have two drivers without a built-in amp (and are larger, according to this thread), mine has an amp but only one driver. There is probably too much padding and wood in the way to get the full benefit. I plan to try it without the piece of padding that goes between the floor and the wheel, and then temporarily without the floor itself, for comparison. I might have accidentally ordered some Rainbow EL-W5 drivers for the footwells today...hopefully the boss lady won't find out. Yes I did see that post about the OEM sub when I was researching options. It is interesting, but it would get in the way when I put the seats down and use the whole boot. I had been considering getting a second side panel (aka flap left) and building a box into there like this E39 one but that would have been way more work than what I ended up doing. Maybe one day.

    Subwoofer wiring

Here's the completed install And under the covers: The wiring still needs tidying up properly. The sub doesn't handle the amp remote auto on stuff by itself so I ran the amp remote wire under the back seat and used it to turn on a relay which then provides power to the sub when the head unit comes on. It won't win any SQ or SPL prizes but it's better than nothing and not bad for a £20 purchase. Plus I still get to keep my spare wheel and haven't lost any boot space. I might upgrade the footwell speakers at some point (looking at Rainbow EL-W5), which should fill in some of the high bass/low mid range that's still missing. My favourite bit was this custom retention wing nut thing I made to hold the sub in place:

It was me being stupid. There was one more trim panel to remove: Once that's off, the rear of the head unit can be accessed: I did some poking around and was able to push a metal rod through from one side to the other: Attached the microphone cable to it with tape and pulled it back through: And boom: Next is to run an amp remote wire along with the subwoofer audio cable, and feed it back into the boot.

Driver's side would work, as I need to run a microphone out that side. I had the trim off there too and poked around but couldn't find a way through.

    Subwoofer wiring

I feel stupid, but I had the glovebox off today and couldn't find a way to get an RCA cable up into the area behind the head unit. Done some searching and can see that people have done it, but I'm stuck. Is there a particular spot or angle I should be looking at? Is there more trim that needs to come off? TIA.
