    Disconnecting Battery.

Is there no one that has disconnected the alarm system and could answer my query?

    Disconnecting Battery.

I have read on a US site that these alarms are very unreliable and are best removed. Who is the go too person in the UK that can inform me how to remove the alarm module on the 520i ?

    Disconnecting Battery.

It must have another battery somewhere because I disconnected the battery today and the alarm sounded, reconnected and the alarm stopped. What year is yours and does it have a small red light on the top off the dash? Apparently after 1994 the alarm system was introduced.

    Disconnecting Battery.

When you disconnect the battery on my E34 1996 520i the alarm is activated, I would like to disconnect the battery whilst the car is in storage over winter. How do I achieve this?

Where is the EWS located on a RHD car?

    E39 523i Touring starter clicking

Oneball, Please read my first post this answers your query. Dave Ett, I will check the voltage when I try to crank. With regards to the battery it is fully charged, when I first tried to start the engine I also thought it was the battery so I connected up a battery booster but this made no difference to the results. Where is the EWS located on the RHD cars?

    E39 523i Touring starter clicking

Yes I have checked both the earth at the engine to frame point and also the earth at the battery. There is also 12v (13mm connection) at the starter. The 12v connection under the passenger foot well is good,

Thank you for your response. I have checked all the connections and the battery is good, it does beg the question ! Why do the lights come at the same time I am turning the key to the start position ? !
  13. I purchased a cheap 2000 with a history of cylinder head gasket problems it was a fully running car/engine but oil was getting into the water, (It seemed a good idea at the time), I suspected either a cracked head or block, as it is virtually impossible to test the block or head to determine which is cracked I purchased a used engine, I stripped down the replacement engine renewed anything that was required and also fitted time- serts in the block I also stripped and cleaned the starter motor(I bench tested it when I reassembled it), I refitted the engine and used all of the sensors that were fitted to the original engine. When everything was fitted I tried to start the engine and all it would was click from the starter just like you have a flat battery or bad earth, it is also worth noting that while the clicking is happening the headlights come on. I could not explain the headlights coming on but I suspected I could have a starter problem so I removed the inlet manifold to gain access to the starter motor, I removed all wires from the starter (one large 13mm connection, one12mm connection one10mm connection) and connected up a slave supply to the starter, I then bridged the 13mm and the 12mm connection and the starter operated normally. It is worth noting that I have posted this problem on the US website and apart from one very helpful person I have not been able to solve the problem. I would be very grateful for any constructive suggestions of what to try next.
