What did you do to your E39 today ?

Ah yes. I had a 528 where that happened. Got a new rad for £103 (from memory). Fitted it no probs & renewed their thermostat in the bmw agents car park. That was in Exeter, quite some time ago! R

You’re right. My V8 get up to temp v quickly and I always keep a sharp eye on the temp, knowing that the water pump is an Achilles heel of these motors. R

I made a tentative enquiry about having it resprayed, but it came in at about £4k so I parked the idea. the guy said it’d cost at least £300 a panel to sort all the dings & scratches. I may just do a panel at a time. I’d love it to be a really dark green though. Almost black, cos it’s been de-chromed already. I’m planning to get the new wheels redone in black too. It keeps going on, doesn’t it? R

What colour is she? I’m wondering if a ‘black’ lacquer would be nice over the lighter green I have! R

Nice. Very nice! With the g/box refilled and a new filter fitted, she seems to drive beautifully! Home issues prevail however. Car cleaning tomorrow!!! R

Picked up my new (Labelled M) wheels this pm. Southampton is close! Especially at the speeds the beast can achieve!!!!! All completely legal, of course! Anyway, I shall be cleaning her, fitting the new boots, and photoing her tomorrow. cant wait to see how she sits on these babies! R

She’s in for a g/box refurb on Thursday am. Still waiting to hear back from the vendor about collection address though, so I’ll keep all posted as & when.... Im looking forward to dealing with the front light upgrade too. Got the ‘new’ ones, just a matter of fitting & fettling! Hopefully it’ll be good enough for photos soon. having to split my time between her and the boat though. That, and I have to rebuild the balcony cos it’s rotted underneath. The bloody list goes on!!!! R

Hi. The beast has just gone through its MOT with only wipers needing changed. I’m therefore of the opinion that the ball joints are ok. One of the yaw sensor clips has failed though, so I need to source that. R

What did you do to your E39 today ?

Hi all, At 180k miles I am assuming that the suspension bushes should be changed, but before I go to the expense of sourcing all the necessary parts, it struck me that there wold be 'tell-tale' signs of them failing. I used to have a 528i some years back, and had to renew the drop links because they knocked, and it was fairly easy job. The beast makes no such noises. The ride is stiffer than normal due to the Msport suspension fitted, but there is no 'knocking' anywhere I can either hear or feel. I'm wondering therefore, whether I'm just making work and expense unnecessarily. One thing that is a little annoying though, is the DSC light which comes on at over 5mph. I renewed the instrument cluster, (well an ebay purchase), cos I messed up the original trying to prize off one of the needles when was was (unsuccessfully) trying to fit stick-on white dials. Do any of you learned people know how to turn it off? R
