    Sweet sweet progress, I bet that feels good ! i think 17s look ace on the car, but at the same time I have no idea of what would come on an original e34 b10 so if originality commands 18s then 18 it is ! those calipers look yummy, are they unique to Alpinas ? They look like old style Ates..

    I think given the short supply of cars it will never be a question of whether it makes economic sense or not to save one, because it just won't as we all know.

    Thank you @DHutchfor the tag, glad my very slow work in progress is of any sort of inspiration to you, kinda reminds me that I have one or two things to get sorted !! Jokes aside, I am by no means an expert on these cars. I have owned one for 5 years now, and considering what "knowing a car" means to me, I can comfortably say I have barely an idea of what living and working on these cars is. All I wanted was an E34 Touring, I did not even know 540s existed, let alone manual ones.. and tourings !! I learned about the existence of the, now almost famous, HK32 variant, 5 days before I decided I was going to buy the wreck that my car was, and mostly still is. It is such an appealing mix of features in a car that you surely do not get on new models, but even looking back, when people ask me why I still have that old bmw estate wreck tucked away in the garage, the answer is always the same: there has never been a V8, 6 Speed manual rear wheel drive estate car that offered all you could ever want from a motor vehicle in a single package. And if there was, it surely never had the same style and interesting features of the E34 Touring. Sure, you have the M5s, the audi S and RS models and for those who aren't fussed with the manual gearbox, there's a whole bunch of mercs to choose from. What really appeals to me about this car is that there isn't a single "M" badge to be seen, it is a proper "Q car", that with the badge removed could fool anyone into thinking it's any old E34 BMW. It is a well known fact that these old barges are by no means fast, (for that BMW invented the M5), but for that moderately fast paced quick fun round the bends that all of us can have, or maybe a short blast down a road that deserves it, or even the ever so busy motorway that suddenly appears empty at certain times, a 540i with a little under 300hp, 6 gears and 3 pedals, isn't so bad after all. I have only driven mine for a year, mostly around town, and I can't be taken as an example as mine was never right because of my extremely tight budget. Only Now I'm starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel, where she starts up ok from cold and idles fine, where the exhaust doesn't blow anymore and the tappets aren't noisy. I am however determined to get her back on the road soonish, I have even gone the lengths of buying project cars to sell them for profit, only to finance a bodyshop trip that I know will be painful !! The car you are looking at is not a £7.5k motor, and I can say this even with my limited knowledge. Although very rare these are not M5s, and for that money they should be mint or near that condition, and this one, although not bad by any means, isn't certainly that good. Even £5k makes me think that I could put mine up for sale tomorrow without even welding it and get more that the £2.9k I paid for it, but I know reality is very different. The real problem is that if you really want one of these cars (like I did when I learned how rare they were) you don;t really have much of a choice. It's a matter or whether you like or not the one that pops up for sale every 6 months, otherwise you'll have to wait for the next one that will very likely have more miles and more zeroes in the price tag if things keep going that way. Mine was on 135k when I bough it. Was patting myself in the back for managing to find a lowish mileage example. Then learned about the MOT history feature on the DVLA website, and realized she was MOTd at 144k two years earlier.. Best of luck with it, I promise I will update my thread.

    thank you, the incident with the hedge cutter was unfortunate, and unfortunately at the time I was leaving at a colelagues house for very cheap, so complaining about things like these was more difficult than if I was just a regular tenant with a contract and all that. I was hoping he'd come to terms with me but he would have none of it, so I moved out. Could have gone a lot worse, windows could have been smashed, including the windscreen, and that is something that I do not want to deal with. Fortunately it will all be repairable, the only bad spot is on the A pillar.. If yours isn;t a touring you could be lucky with the condition of the sills. Best of luck is all I can say to you !!

    not much progress. Done a compression check lately, still not convinced on the health of the block. Now asking around for welding quotes, with that aspect sorted I;d feel a lot more motivated ! I hope your car goes to a good home, a working sunroof is so rare. fingers crossed

    It’s a cracking deal for the money considering how much people advertise 525s for nowadays. obviously a car with half the mileage and half as many owners would probably be worth a tad more regardless of the engine, but these are so rare and such an unbeatable package that I think somebody will get real lucky with it, more so if the sunroof works too!

    If I had some proper space, some steel and a welder I’d have done some proper work on the car considering I’ve had the whole month at my disposal like most of us. instead all I managed was clean the garage she sits and, change the destroyed door mirror with a replacement one from Geoff, and today I performed a compression check; although, still not convinced as I should have turned off fuel supply. results are as follows: (seen from the driver seat) 5)160 |||||||| 1) 150 6)165 |||||||| 2) 160 7)180 |||||||| 3) 140 8)160 |||||||| 4) 140 Sounds to me like a replacement lump is something that I should keep an eye out for. Won’t happen until my wages go up by a couple of quid, so not anytime soon. I also finally got rid of the devils number plate, which is now on a certificate. Need to try and get rid of it efficiently. Original reg back online.

    Coronavirus/Covid19

    I have been wearing a mask since the beginning of last week, and I'm constantly being laughed at from whoever sees me, and people in the streets avoid me as soon as they see me. Funny this, as I feel like I'm the only one that's taking precautions. Another thing I find funny is how many people stop me to say that my mask does nothing, to them I always answer that I could have the virus and all I'm trying to do is to be responsible. This country is underestimating how serious this virus is, and it's very sad to say that it will have to take hundreds of human lives before anyone realizes. I hope it won't get to that stage, but looking at how many people passed away back home yesterday (475), I reckon that moment will come sooner rather than later.

    Looks like the “cliche” 69 charger that everybody likes. standard 383 and 3 speed 727. If they’re lucky it will have a 8.75 diff (otherwise a 7.25), very likely to be single spinner looking at the low spec of the car. grew up dreaming about owning a general lee. Still in my wishlist but I learned how mediocre chargers can be (like any other American muscle car) in normal conditions (ie not sliding on a Rally stage) tired of seeing general lee replicas though, I think they look cool in black or blue. the best engine for them is a hot 383, since factory 426s would cost like a 458 Italia! sorry I’m a muscle car nerd.
