Mine is a late 2002 build but had a mk3 Nav. I did look for the aux as I've done that in my E39 before but decided against it as it was a bit of a faff connecting a Bluetooth unit to it, that's what pushed me towards a double din for the E39.

The only reason I went towards the Grom was that there was a used one fairly cheap on eBay. It's plug and play in the back of the car, the only thing that needs some time is routing it to the front of the car but I managed it while changing the interior.

I think it's perfect for what it is and it streams well and you have the steering wheel functionality as well. I still need to route the mic but hands free as well.

I'd say definitely one of the best upgrades you can do to an E39 along with the weighted ZHP shift knob. Definitely brings up the interior to a more modern feel.

Same here, really good quality finish. I had perforated leather on the sides, normal on top and bottom. And m Tri stitch.
The thing that pushed me to get it done was getting the airbag recall. Having a new airbag with a battered wheel wasn't too nice.
    Here's a before and after

Well, a fun day today, picked up the tyres from the engineering firm who bored them out perfectly on a CNC machine. And straight to fit the tyres id ordered.
Some rear tyre at 265 haha, 18's look superb I think. Just need to clean the car to match now. Bonus points when I got home the centre caps had just been dropped of by the postman. (or woman)

Car aligned again to M5 specs. running 2.5bar in front and 2.8 in rear. FYI the wheels are all the same colour. Rim edge part looks lighter sometimes with the reflection of the light thats all.

I had the same issue, I put a flat screw driver down the side of it and pulled from the tape slot, one side popped free and then the same with the other. It didn't really mark the dash in anyway. Do it below the trim. It should pull out.

Qasim got a reaction from Pzero in What did you do to your E39 today ?
I had a similar issue and I ended up blasting it out with a drain cleaning attachment on a pressure washer. I remember when I removed the arch liner in the past I noticed some leaves and debris which I pulled out and all of a sudden water started flowing non stop.  It made a huge mess on the workshop floor.

The 324mm have 60/30 on the top

I just replaced mine last week with 324mm disc and the bigger Callipers in silver, goodridge brake hoses.
They do fill out the 17s a lot better and it looks a lot better than the rusty stuff before

Qasim reacted to richyx in built myself a champagne e39 540i touring
got his 540 last year and over the year done a fair bit to it, first was have gearbox sorted so was fitted with on from an alpina with ecu, then i got double glazing fitted, i already had my wheels, bumper and mirrors off previous car, fitted full airlift air ride, sorted all new arms out on it, and then with this lockdown i managed to refurb the wheels andredye all my rare leather parts i got a couple years ago, everything was champagne anyhow but the seats and armrests bt redyed so it all matched, seats are e38 sport contours, which i then added heated elements and active massage too, welded the brackets i chopped off some e38 comfort that had tables so these could be fitted, modified e38 arm rest on tilt and slide with phone connection, im still working on the phone, it had a v50 and ive converted to bluetooth, just waiting on an aerial to test it out now, pretty chuffed hw its turned out, next is quad exhaust as ive modded the spare wheel well to accept another pipe, then paint to make it mint as couple of little rust spots to sort, modified e39 handles using genuine e38 fiber optic for external illumination, e38 inter illuminated handles, custom trims with individual badges, and some individual kick plates i had for god knows how long

Note that the lower front inside of the opening for the headunit requires slight modification, as per Dennis' post above regarding a DMX125. Maybe all Kenwoods?
Shame about the silver surround of the screen, but that's Kenwoods fault!
Infinitely better than the terrible plain blanking plate this car came with and other such surrounds that I've seen on others, good job D.

So back again after a long while. Got the wheels refurbed by Alloyfix in Romford and they did an awesome job, really happy with it.
In the next month or so I've got new brake discs, pads and sensors to fit. I need to run the audio cables and fit my Hertz HCP4D amp. And hopefully finish my interior, I've got the rear armrest and headrests to do.

Its pretty straight forward for the door rubber. Try and get a 8mm socket onto the nut and undo that and slide the rubber down and out. Then there's a clip on the connector that needs to slide up to get both sides apart.
Everytime I've done it, I've never had to remove anything other than the 8mm. It might be easier if you could get the door full open.

    Sup Dan,

Recently hardwired a NextBase 412 into my 525 touring, which is running from the glove compartment fuse box. Ran the cable into headliner alongside rear mirror support, along to near side, down the A pillar and had a bastard of a time fishing for the end behind that glovebox. Agro but found it in the end, and fed it in through the open back of the fuse box.

Used the NextBase kit which has the piggyback fuse adaptor. As mentioned above, fusebox is tight due to design, but managed to find the ideal slot and not dislodged despite having fusebox down several times since. In the centre of the trim above the glovebox (well, mine at least, I'm assuming that your Nippon export is the same) there is a cut out section, runs from fuse 20 to 26/27ish. Fuse 21 lines up perfectly to fit without catching when closed. Fuse 21 is for rear view mirror dimming, drivers seat adjustment and garage opener. Only live when key in accessory / engine running position. It's a 5A fuse, from memory I think NextBase recommend no higher than 10A? Worked like a charm, no issues. Attached pic of mine below...

Final note - the actual body of the piggyback fuse which they supplied is a fraction wider than the body of a fuse. REALLY tight fit, at first I thought it wouldn't fit at all, just took some persuasion.
