  1. When it comes to sorting the suspension I've a good mind to go Bilstein. I had a chat with them and for a touring with airbags I get B8 shocks on the front with lowering springs and B6 shocks on the rear, airbags stay the same. I know Bilstein are a good quality product. Their only down side is no adjustability and I'm not willing to go to coilovers, especially as I want to keep the air bags. Koni are the only company I can find who sell a shock on its own that is adjustable, and they don't make the adjustable one for the touring, not only that the ones they do make for the touring are not compatible with SLS. Has anyone ever fitted an adjustable damper on a touring with airbags without using coilovers. I have not been able to find any. Maybe someone knows something I don't.

What do you mean the bolt is for aligning the arm. The eccentric washer is on the rear bolt not the front. Is someone able to confirm that the front bolt for the lower swing arm is 174Nm? It turns out i cracked the bolt. New one going on later today when I pick it up. front bolt in the swingarm with no eccentric washer, not the rear bolt. Thanks.

I’m trying to torque the front most bolt on the rear swingarm. It’s supposed to be 175Nm. But when I get to about 110 Nm worth it doesn’t get any tighter. It’s as though something is going round and round. That little tab I think is supposed to act as if you had a spanner on the other end, and there’s nothing to get hold of on the other end anyway and there’s no space. Any idea what the issue is please?

This rubbery protrusion has left wear marks on the airbag. I suspect that’s what caused the original to burst a couple of years ago. Can pull that stuff off? It looks like it’s protecting the bodywork.

Would anyone have a suggestion how to get the nut undone at the wheel end of the upper arm in the photo. On mine the spindles on all of them are so corroded there is nothing to grip on to. I bought a crappy blowtorch that keeps going out but might be able to get it to go long enough to warm up the nut, but even then, there isn't actually anything to grip on to. I've tried mole grips and a pipe wrench. Any suggestions, I'd assume this is a fairly common issue on old suspension.

Great thanks. just to be sure I’m interpreting these descriptions properly; Upper integral link fastening in the photo Is 256 Nm Lower Integral link fastening is 105 Nm Have I got this correct? That seems like a lot of torque in aluminium.

Is it worth greasing this before putting it in?

    Door colour match

I have heard of it. The paint isn’t damaged. One of the jokes where the trim pops in is out of shame though. I’ll look at getting it repaired first.

    E39 530 Touring - new wheels

The car at this link is absolutely beautiful. I saved the pictures of it a few months ago just to look at it every now and then. SE's look best as pre-facelift IMO and the fact its a touring as well and has black leather and a sunroof and with orange indicators are all bonuses. If I had the space and the money I probably would have bought it without even seeing it. I think it's sold now anyway. Anyone know if anyone on the forum or FB group bought it?

Thank you for the advice everyone. Very helpful. Is there a difference between Rost Off Ice and Rost Off Blue Ice?

Thank you for the tips, much appreciated. My axle stands are at my Mum's which I won't be going down to get, so would have to buy some more. Would it be a stretch to do this on the car jack one side at a time. I'm thinking I'm a bit too under the car for comfort compared to when I was doing the brakes. I think I'll buy some more stands! Vac lines and ccv today!

Do you know why the lower arm is not replaced. Do the bushings not wear out on this component?
