We'll nice long drive and no movement from the temp gauge. Also spoke to BMW as I was still concerned by the 106/8c running temp. This is apparently normal for a v8 as the thermostat doesn't open till 103c so looking good so far. Happy days

Ok have changed my stat and been driving around and needle has sat in the middle all day even gave it a good run up the dual carriage way looks like this May have been my issue. But not one to count his chickens will keep an eye on this. Thanks everyone for there advice it was much appreciated.

Took the stat out this afternoon and have noticed it had a rattle so think the switch in it has broken.

Did the ktmp today and went to a max 117 not sure what the running temp of a v8 is but think this could be a bit high.

Have noticed it only moves up when I move the auto box to s. After looking around is it true that the stat is a two stage on a v8

When it moves back to the 12 o'clock position it's an instantaneous drop not a slow drop it's a slower move up though that's why I thought it may be the stat.

Can sit in traffic and it won't budge from the 12 position only moves when I open it up down the dual carriage way

What's the best way to find out if it is the viscous fan

Happens when driving fine when sat at traffic happens when driving down dual carriage way. Usually after I have given it a good run. It has never gone into the red or near the red, just moves up a bit and sits there. Car has of yet not done it when sitting in traffic so thought it could be the stat get stuck half open.

Had my 535 for a few months now and a couple of times the temp gauge has moved past the middle and stopped just before the next white mark on the gauge. It will sit there for a little while then drop back to the middle. Now I think it could be the stat, or is it something else.

Unfortunately the alarm started playing up. So thought it best to cut my losses rather than spend a fortune trying to find what was causing the problem.

I know was total gutted when they said they wouldn't repair it. Then had to fight to get a realistic value. I don't see why we get asked how much the car is worth as they never pay what it is worth do they.
