  1. They offered me a loan car but I'd have to wait months and pay £25 per day + petrol.

    Replacement Headlights?

Thanks @changy and @Keliuss So I'm safe to get either e60 or E61, up to what year? Will LCI models fit without modification?

    Replacement Headlights?

I need to replace the headlights on my 2004 E61 (One full of condensation, the other internally clouded). It seems the ones from E60s are not quite the same; I think they are missing an adjustment dial? See pic. Does that matter? I'm scouring ebay for the exact parts but I'd like to know what models/years will fit without hassle. Thanks in advance.
  4. I popped into my local BMW service dept to pick up a couple of bolts and was told about this recall. Mine going in soon. What's the Facebook group referred to would have posted about this recall?

    Onging battery drain issues

I've had battery problems for a while. Turns out it was a faulty IBS
  6. My E61 came back from a recent service with 8 fault codes relating to DME/DDE - they used an Autologic Quick Test. 4203 Glow control unit 4548 Power Management, vehicle electrical system 4212 - 4262 - Glow plug Cylinder 1-6 I've alway been told that the car won't do a DPF regen if there are errors with the glow plug but on a long trip this weekend, I'm 99.99% sure it did two regens; Lower, boomy exhaust note and slight increase in fuel consumption (looking at the dial under the rev counter). (The car has done 112K miles and the DPF back pressure test came back as 4.875 mbar which shows low soot build up.) Anyone have any thoughts on white might be going on? Thanks
  7. I've just used DIS to run a back pressure test on my 2004 E61 with approx 110k on the clock. The values I got back were: @Idle - 15.9 mbar (Max permissible 65 mbar) @2000 RPM - 33.9 mbar (Max permissible 150 mbar) @cut-off speed - 144.9 mbar (Max permissible 250 mbar) Can anyone tell me what these values reveal about the state of health of the DPF? Thanks.

    535d DPF repair or trade-in

Or you could just buy a new 'OEM' Spec DPF from either BMCatalysts or EuroCats for a fraction of the price of a new BMW one, and about the same price as gutting the existing one.. BMCats part number is BM11030 (for the 530D). Then you stay within the law and fewer children get lung cancer.

    PDC weirdness

Bumped - the problem went away all winter and is now back, so I'm thinking it maybe something to do with heat? Anybody have the part number for the PDC control unit or anyone know if it can be self serviced and cleaned out, like I did with the diversity antenna? Ta

    DPF regeneration symptoms

I nearly always notice it, so does my son, he says the car sounds like an Bugatt Veyroni! The exhaust note is deeper and boomy. Maybe not so pronounced with a 520d though?

    Diversity Antenna - Fixed

Open the glass hatch. Undo the 4 Torx screws under the round plastic covers Close the glass hatch. Gently pull down on the spoiler and place it on the roof (use a towel to protect the paint) Remove the connectors between the beige box and the spoiler - the beige box is the DA Open the antenna box by prising it open at the 4 clips, I used two small screwdrivers Good luck

    Diversity Antenna - Fixed

During the Winter last year my key fob stopped working unless I held it very close to the tailgate. I took off the rear 'spoiler' to see if there were any frayed wires etc and to also check the condition of the DA box. All looked OK and I gave it a couple of squirts with WD40 but it didn't help at all. I just put up with it until recently when I found a post somewhere saying that cleaning inside the DA box helps. Off with the spoiler again and carefully prised open the DA box. It all looked very clean and no broken solder joints so I gave it a careful going-over with a soft toothbrush and some compressed air. To my amazement it fixed the problem and now the key fob operates from 20-25 feet away, not exactly perfect but much better than before. Hope that helps someone!
