Hi All, I;m not actually too overly concerned about my MPG, however I decided to put my figures into a calculation thingy to compare it to the OBC So the OBC was showing 51.3 MPG Calculator 39.4 Why is there such a discrepency and how can i change the OBC to be more representative of the actual MPG? #

    Spoiling the old girl

Well after replacing every bush and arm on the car, I had the wheels aligned on a hunter machine....WOW what a difference. I highly reccomend the guys at A1 Motorist Centre in Broadstairs 01843 866622. Its now all green and go's where you point it.

What did you do to your E39 today ?

I fitted all new arms front and rear and new track control arms rear lower bushes. Subframe bushes and then spent some time with a hunter machine to get it all pointing where it should

    Steering column Issues

No it didn't come with the lower shaft, I removed the pinch bolt and split the shaft, It was moving freely before I completly removed the lower section, when I reinstalled the lower section it had to be tapped in with a mallet I couldn't move it up and down by hand as I could before

    Steering column Issues

My car has an issue with the electric steering column, the vertical adjustment was buggered, I think the threaded section in the column was stripped...............anyhow.......... I replaced the column today, which was more involved than it needed to be, the part I bought had been removed with what I guess was a 10lb lump hammer, the end of the shaft resembled a mushroom, therefore not just a straight swop, I had to strio the shaft out of mine and install it in the "new" column. I was reassembling when I encountered the "problem" The lower shaft that go's through the floor moved up and down freely, I removed the shaft to apply some more grease as it was accessible. My problem came when I tried to reinstall the shaft, I managed to tap it back into place, but it would not slide up and down like it did previously, this has caused some issues when i try to move the steering wheel in and out as the shaft does not move with it. What have I done to cause the problem? Is there a specific way the shaft should be installed??? I am going to have to dissassemble it all again to rectify the problem, but would like some advise on how best to fit the shaft first.

How To Set A CCTV System Up

Obtaining a decent system, should not break the bank, but you do get what you pay for in some respects, the cheap Chinese cameras are a complete waste of time and money. You need to go with a named brand, or a manufacturer that is using the chipset from a named brand. A lens with the right focal length will have a large effect on the useable images that will record. One or two cameras that have a general overview of the area you are looking to observe. Another camera giving a narrow field of view on the entrance to the protected area, this will help to give a picture of useable quality for recognition purposes, if you capture an image of somebody on the screen and their head is about the size of a 50p piece, it is highly unlikely that you would be able to recognise them. Enlarging the picture digitally will not help, unless you spend a fortune on megapixel ip cameras. Most DVR's will offer good compression ratios in different formats, so large HDD's are not necessary, especially as you should be recording on motion activation, not real time. 500 gb should be able to give at least two months recording when correctly set up. A dedicated micros Eco 4 dvr is a commercial grade product, which come up on eBay quite a lot, you can't go wrong with one of them, if you need more than 4 cameras, then you will obviously need the 8 or 16 way. solar panels at home, anybody got?

As your feed in tariff pays you for what you generate not what go's back into the grid, it is a no brainer to use all the available resources that you generate (where possible) for your own gain. You are getting paid to reduce your outgoings, as close to something for nothing as you will get from an energy supplier. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

solar panels at home, anybody got?

What you need now is a solar immersion unit, it's a stand alone unit that will automatically switch on your immersion heater when the system is generating. It should reduce your heating bills by about 20 percent. Should cost about £500 to have one supplied and installed. At that cost it will pay for its self pretty bloody quickly. I changed my main stat on Monday, temp now back where it should be. Had a lucky escape, part of the old stat had broken off and was lodged in the water pump, if it had not of lodged itself, I'm sure it would of made the pump very second hand at the very least. Mine is a manual, so no EGR stat, which made diagnosis fairly simple , all in all it took me about 35 mins to do. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
