  1. Finally got round to fitting the DAB tuner today. I'd already fitted the Intravee II and the Intravee switch as well as the Alpine CD player and the KAC-420i iPod controller. Thanks to the Intravee most Alpine devices that are controlled by Ai-Net can be controlled via the oem HU (in my case the widescreen one). The TUA-T100 is a rare item indeed as they stopped making them over 6 years ago, I missed the one that was for sale on here as I found out to late that I wouldn't have to put an areial on the roof to make it work. Then I missed another one on ebay, but as luck would have it I picked up a new in the box never used one from ebay germany. I decided to put the unit in the right hand side of the boot as there is already loads of stuff in the left side The TUA has a Ai-Net threw put so it sits after the intravee but before the switch, once plugged in you get an extra source on the Intravee menu "DAB" My main concern was wher to put the areial and which type to use, splitter or glass mount and so on. In the end a installer that I know gave me a used kenwood glass mount one to try out a few ideas with. At the moment the areial is mounted inside the rear bumper to the right of the car, the lead comes in where the PDC wires come in. Dosen't look pretty as its taped in place and this was a test fit However I think it will stay like this for a bit as it seems to be working and working well, ok so I've only tested it on the drive but at the moment its found 5 multiplex and I've got in the region of 70 stations Need to test it on the move now, one concern is that there is alot of car for the signal to get threw if the signal happens to be coming from the front of the car so if this becomes a problem one idea is to fit another areial in the front bumper .......... I'll report back on this. And heres a pic of the left habd side, I've got the Alpine CD changer, the KAC-420i control box and an iPod, the Intravee II and the Intravee switch. The beauty of this is that it lets me feed the DVD players sound in to the switch to via a Ai-Net to RCA convertor so I now get sound from that in stereo as well All in all really pleased with the set up now (it will be fixed in place permanatly and neatly once I do the whole install), just need the processor, amps, speakers and subs now ...............
  2. Hi all As some of you may know I enjoy cycling and take part in various rides during the year, in the main these are around 50miles. In July this year I’m taking part in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100. The ride starts in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, then follows a 100-mile route on closed roads through the capital and into Surrey’s stunning countryside. With leg-testing climbs and a route made famous by the world’s best cyclists at the London 2012 Olympics I’ll be riding on behalf of the charity Bloodwise. https://bloodwise.org.uk/ Bloodwise is a UK based charity dedicated to funding research into all blood cancers including leukaemia, lymphoma and myeloma, as well as offering information and support to blood cancer patients. Bloodwise's vision is to beat blood cancer and been working to beat it since 1960. My target is to raise £400 in sponsorship by the ride on 30th July. It would be fantastic if you could spare a few pound towards this fantastic charity. My just giving page link is below. http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/paul-macdonald Thanks in advance. Paul

I think they were all the same (but I could be wrong) the only difference I recall is whether its a Factory fit or Dealer fit system. If its factory fit its easy to get bits if its dealer fit then its a ball ache.
  4. As you know from last thread I have had some Alpina style plaques made for my car. Started as a bit of fun because of the Alpina bits I have on the car. And ended up with 4 variations. The Alpina ones were done with numbers 009 (was the year my Dad passed) and 001 (making out it was a one off that went via Alpina a concept as it were. Then I had the BMW ones done the number 063 was used (was my Dads age when he passed, and / or saying it was teh 63rd LMB UK car) I know its not really and there is no way to tell but as above it was done for fun and because I love the way the Alpina plaques look. I have a plinth on the way so mine will go in the same spot as the Alpina one does. Oh and I am going to be using the BMW one that says 5.0 What you think ??

    Intravee and Alpine DAB

When using the main menu screen for DAB is it possible to name the preset banks ? At the moment they just show as Bank 1, 2 and 3. Wondered if you could change these to (as example) London for Bank 1, Birmingham for Bank 2 ?

    My audio build thread

@Barney If you mean you are going to be running the same set up as me then it will all depend what you are running on the other side of the BOB. The BM54 connects to the LC2i via the front speaker wires. The LC2i connects to the BOB via 1 x short RCA lead Intravee to BOB 1 x Ai Net cable BOB to PXA H100 1 x Ai Net cable PXA H100 to Amps 3 x RCA Leads PXA H100 to Intravee Switch 1 x Ai Net cable The switch will allow to run up to 3 Ai Net connect items so it depends what you are looking to run from there as to how many more leads you will need. I have a CD Player, DVD Player and iPod so I use 2 x Ai Net cables (the one for the ipod goes via the KCA 420 which then you plug the ipod into) and 1 x Ai Net to RCA converter cable (for the DVD).
  8. Speakers hitting is a massive prob on these cars, to make sure this didn't happen I trimmed and sanded parts of the door card away, nothing I have taken off effects the door card at all. And as you can see I have enough flat space for a 6.5" I also cut away the vapour barrier from behind the baffle, dyno-matted the hell out of the inside of the door, front of vapour barrier and then sealed the front of the baffle to the barrier with more dyno-mat. I also made a foam ring covered in dyno-mat to deal the gap between the door card and speaker. Idea being that it uses the door as a box and that the sound goes no where apart from out via the grill in the door. It ended up being a horse shoe shape with the bottom cut out as a full circle wouldn't fit when trying to put the door card back on. I am using the Hybrid audio with the inverted suspension rings but we did the same trimming to my mates car and his JL Audio 6'5s don't hit either.

Keeping the oem head unit will always be a compromise, but I did exactly the same as did a friend. I'm running the same processor, convertor, Intravee and bob as you are doing along with Hybrid Audio speakers F & R, 2 x 12" W6 subs and DLS amps. It sounds great and most people that have heard it think the same, with the time correction and cross over that the processor offers you can get some really good staging and bring the sub / subs right forward with the setting up. Yes with an aftermarket head unit you could get better but like you I wanted the oem look and didn't want to lose all my functions or re-set. I used 6.5" in the front door, the Hybrid Clarus do have a trick inverted suspension ring which allowed more room, What I did was to kind box the mdf baffle into the vapour barrier, cut the barrier away from behind the baffle and then dyno-mat the hell out of the in side of the door, front of the barrier covering the baffle. I also made two sealing rings that go between the door card and baffle so that the sound can only come threw the speaker grills. I also used a sander to make sure there was a nice fat area on the inside of the door card for the speaker so that it wouldn't touch anything when used in anger. Works really well. I used 5.25's in the rear, just put them in the standard boxes, I have them turned right down but its a big car and I like a little rear fill, and its good if you have rear passengers. Oh and tweeters are best behind the mirrors not in the doors.

    E39 BBK fitted finally!

Its a good set up, I had them before the Stop Techs, if you do fit the rears you will need a 5mm spacer for the rear wheels to clear the face of the calliper.

  21. Just thought I would put this out there ........ I'm not going to have time to arrange this this year, I've had the detail sent to me so can send them on or give details to any one that wants to arrange it. Shame not to have a stand there this year but what with work and everything I just don't have the time.

  23. Hi fella I'd send you the details of the guy running it that you need to speak to. You let him know that we want a stand and rough numbers (usually about 40). Get a list going and set a date to get ya name down by. Then collect every ones money via paypal by a set date. Then send off the money via a cheque and wait for tickets, once they turn up post them out to every one. On the day either your self or some one else to be there 1st and arrange the stand ( I don't mind doing that bit).

    Hogie's E34 535I Sport Project

Hi Hoggie Just read threw this, glad to see you still have the car and that you are still looking after it and enjoying it again. Its amazing how quick that rust can set in and the crap build up behind those skirts, I had work done on the drivers side sill when I owned it, it was TCS that did the work. From memory I think I had some new metal added and welding. I also cleaned out all the crap from inside both sills and hamerited both sides. The steering on the straight 6 E34s always needs adjusting after so much use, and the changes of find a new box that's better your one are slim. Looks good with the 17's Congrats on the little one and house btw.
