    E34 1991 525i non start

My car used to do that only when hot only. Once it had cooled down it would start right up, or if I jumped it. I put it down to the starter motor sticking when hot + a weak battery. For me the cure was a new battery, it never did it again after I replaced the battery. Sound like a slightly different issue for you, I would also check the earth as the next step.

Like this? Is it doing it when hot and will it start when you put the jumper cables on it?

    The e34 rear sill thread

Nice read, mine was nearly exactly the same as that.....although I had to outsource the skill required to repair it.

  14. Hello All, Is there a way to drain the coolant from the engine block without removing the drain plug? I drained the rad today but after 30 year and 200k I'm thinking the smart man doesnt go disturbing a rusty metal bolt in the side of the 30 year old 200k engine! Is there another way to do this?

    Scorpion Alarm, e32/e34, Circa 1990

If it's working I'd prob take it. The unit I have works ....but intermittently. The led on both fobs lights up but only 1 arms and disarms the alarm, and then only every 10th press ....I'm not prepared to temp fate. So it could be the unit or could be the fob. Could you send me a pic of the internals of the fob you have?

    Hogie's E34 535I Sport Project

I have been thinking about starting a project thread for quite awhile. Some people might remember my car from when Maca owned it. I bought this car in 2011 from Maca. I searched quite a bit to find a decent e34, my criteria being it had to be an original sport model ( as much as Id like one I cant afford a decent M5), either a 525 or 535. Even back in 2011 it was getting quite difficult to find decent e34s in sport guise. I drove a few dogs and soon decided it was better to pay a little extra for something that had had some money spent on it. Below is as I got the car. Maca kept his ICE as I'm not really into amps and stuff in the boot. Each to their own as they say. # It had a little rust bubble on one of the back doors and the spoiler needed a respray to match the rest of the car but honestly it was easily the cleanest one Id seen. I thought these would be my first jobs but as is the way sometimes other things come along which distract your attention. First off randomly when sitting at traffic lights or in traffic the car would start to misfire and completely stall when you engaged drive. The first time it did this I put it down to the fact the car hadn't been used much the year before but when it did it 2 or 3 times more i decided I had to start doing some research/googling. First port of call, a new idle control valve. Didnt solve the problem, bugger, bout 100 quid wasted!! Decided to try a new temp sensor, why not, only 15 quid, did it again!!! How embarrassing. It stranded me in Ealing one night and as luck would have it when I called the AA the chap they sent was very well read with regard to E34s. He restarted the car, it was still spluttering etc, turned it off, turned the ignition back on but with the engine still off, pushed the throttle fully down, released it slowly and then started the car. Ran perfect after that procedure. So what was the problem, the TPS was worn in one spot according to him. That reset the ECU or something like that. A good second hand TPS later, problem solved, never had this issue since As Paul kept the ICE the first thing a bought was a radio. My only reason for picking below was you can pick any colour you like depending on your mood. I wanted it to match the other instruments and I thought it looked quite good and it has some modern features to boot. One sunday morning I came out, pressed the button to open the car and all the locks bounced. Ummm...strange, pressed it again and the doors opened. Ah I must have pressed the button twice, silly me I thought. Couple of weeks later same thing happened but with one difference, when I tried to reopen the car the drivers door stayed locked. A quick google, lock actuator gone, drivers door, typical. I did make an attempt after some googling to get the door card off but really I knew this was beyond my limited capabilities, Id just break something. I dropped it off to TCS in High Wycombe and they sorted it for me. Next installment, replacement of the heater matrix.

    Hogie's E34 535I Sport Project

The best part of a year ago I bought these while in the states. http://www.bmw-stuff.com/proddetail.asp?prod=drpe32 Where the check strap attaches to the door was damaged, seams to be an e34 issues. I tried to fit them before but I could not budge one of the fitting screw. When the car was with Chris and the doors were off I found out why, cross threaded. Anyhow I fitted the drivers one today between the showers. I need to order the correct screws but for sure this was an easy fix

Yeah it was more work than I anticipated when I gave it to him..... Really happy with the outcome. If you dont need the car as your daily it would be worth giving him a shout and leaving it with him, he's not far from Newbury. He is one guy though and busy.....

Chris is a good lad alright, pure luck that I put a post up and he had a gap in the diary. He saved my car for sure. He loves his cars too, happy to chat away. I dont know what happened to Paul. Last time I spoke to him he was on a about supercharging that M5 of his, dont know if he did it in the end. Did you sell your one?

    Hogie's E34 535I Sport Project

It's not mine, belongs to the chap that did the sills on the car . He told me but Iv just plain forgotten now. Ideal bit of kit for a garage with a low ceiling and where space is tight, as you see in this one.

    Hogie's E34 535I Sport Project

So the car passed it MOT Friday, no advisories. The guy MOTing it offered to buy it, not sure how serious he was. I now have a solid e34 therefore I am more inclined to start sorting out some of the other things I'm not happy with, mostly small jobs compared to the welding work.....headlining sagging, old wiring to remove, getting the A/C working again, the wheels need a refurb too but first priority will be a big service. For good order sake if you are looking to have some bodywork done on you cars I'd have no hesitation recommending Chris, a great guy all round, Im over the moon with the end result
