Looking to view this E39 M5 - bad idea?

I'm a bit late to the party here but to add to this thread regarding the initial car in question. Dennis had his comments spot on. I went to view the car in Wigan in about April and whilst it looks very nice in the pictures on the advert it is a very sad looking car in person. There is a lot of rust, there is a very cheap removal of the rear silencers and the engine started misfiring when I started it up. It was very sad to see this car and I came away thinking it was really a parts car.

    E39 M5 Wanted

All sorted now thanks, you can delete this thread if you like.

Can I just add that I had a chat with @jags53 about his car leading up to the discovery of the work now needed. He was totally honest about any issues with the car and hence removing it from sale which shows real integrity that is often scarce when buying a car these days.

    E39 M5

What's the deal with the MOT history? The milage seems go drop suddenly.

    E39 M5 Wanted

I am on the serious lookout for a tidy E39 M5, mileage preferably not over 130k but condition/history more important. It also needs to be 2001/2002, I would prefer a LMB. Cash waiting. Location: South Manchester but willing to travel for the right car. My budget is about £12k Thanks.

    E39 M5 Wanted

I am on the lookout for an E39 M5, there are two pretty close to me on ebay that I wondered what peoples thoughts were on them or if they were owned by anyone on here, thanks. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BMW-M5-E39-Le-Mans-Blue-Caramel-Extended-Leather-2001-114k-Full-MOT/183550603313?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2000-W-BMW-M5-E39-SILVERSTONE-BLUE-HERITAGE-LEATHER-LOW-MILES-LOW-OWNERS-M3-AMG/163405364353? _trkparms=aid%3D888007%26algo%3DDISC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140328180637%26meid%3Dd25dc1e163054109862063c2d085b71f%26pid%3D100009%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26sd%3D183550603313%26itm%3D163405364353&_trksid=p2047675.c100009.m1982

    2001 E39 M5 - SOLD

I just got an insurance quote of £800 which I think is a bit much TBH. I might have to rethink my E39 M5 dream for a few years.

If you kept the car what would you have done to it next?

Did you get to the bottom of this problem?

    Blue E39 M5 on the M56

It did look nice but it wasn't driven like a garage queen. To say he probably averaged close to 100mph on that stretch would not be far from the truth. It was like a mini M5 motorcade. Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk

    Blue E39 M5 on the M56

I was just travelling behind this car between J14 and the M6 junction J9. Lovely condition and the mot check says about 37k miles on the clock which is amazingly low. Registration ended in 0XXO. I was in the E34 M5. Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk
