Is this M5 known to anyone ?

Well if anyone wants to know anything about this one then give me a shout. I know it's history well obviously
  10. Hello all, I thought I would start a thread about my M5. Hopefully others my find it interesting, or maybe even help other novices (like myself) with some information along the way. But mainly I am doing it to keep a record of my car, and remind me just how long I wanted one of these for. I'm sure at some point when the bills roll in I WILL need reminding. I have been on the forum a while now as I previously owed an E39 523 se. (Which was a great car by the way!) I guess this may go on a bit as I have a habit of gibbering to much so for those interested, thanks for reading! So onto my car, most advert's you read people say "I looked at loads before this one" etc etc, all I can say then is that most of the others then must have been scrappers. Some really rough examples of these cars exist, really rough, I think I was reasonably lucky finding mine on the 3rd car viewed. I spent a lot of time (years really) reading about these cars and what they cost to run and maintain. Did I over pay? Probably on paper yes......Its a pre-facelift T reg 1999. However I was more than happy to pay that bit more for the history that came with the car. I picked it up for £7450. The mileage was 96532. The previous owner had the car for over 10 years, it has a full BMW service history, and also the previous had a BMW warranty which cost him £140 per month with a £250 excess on any claim. All I can say is he had his money out of it. When ordered the car was spec'd as follows: M1CR Caramel Full Nappa Heritage Leather.Z31 Tracker Retrieve.Z74 No Tyre Pressure Control. - That's not ordered?!?358 Climate Comfort Windscreen.403 Electric Glass Sunroof.464 Through-loading Ski Bag.609 Navigation System Professional.629 GSM Telephone - Fixed.672 CD Changer.677 Loudspeaker System - BMW Professional. When I purchased the car, within the last 2000 miles, it had been put through an Inspection II at Elms BMW Bedford, which the total bill came in at £1362.82 Also replaced at the time of the Inspection II had been the following: Thermostat & Coolant.Alternator belt.Power Steering return pipe.Passenger door mirror. (Fluid leaking)I also have recent receipts for all sorts of weird and wonderful items from bulbs and wipers to a DSP amp. A couple of big ones are below. Front Brake Disc's / Pads / Calipers - £1481.65Breather Pipes / Diff Seals / Ball Joints / New CD Changer / Idle Valve / AC Belt / Mobility Kit - £1416.62Rear Disc's / Pads / New Dash Pixel Display - £1011.26 The previous owner sold the car as he was upgrading to an E60 M5. He cared for it to a level which I have never even seen before. The costs are just unbelievable, the slightest issue he took it back to BMW for. I even have a receipt for a "rattle" which was cured by a bit of foam under the parcel shelf - Repaired FOC - Good of them eh? So bad bits then, it has a few. Its never had a clutch - I know this will need doing at some point. It's a second / third car not a daily so no plans to do mega miles, I have no plans to track it and I am fairly sympathetic to my cars apart from odd occasions so I'm not that concerned. Its just something I need to think about in the future.Vanos - To be honest its not silent. Its not the quietest I have heard but its by no means the loudest. I have heard a few over the years before looking to purchase so I haven't gone in blind and feet first.Body is excellent really but has bit of paint peel behind the rear drivers wheel, and drivers side jack point is a bit crusty under the pad. These are on the list.....The Caramel leather is a love hate thing. At first I wasn't sure, as its extended its everywhere and to me is a bit much. BUT it kinda suits the car, so I want to recolor a few of the worn bits and hopefully continue through the car. Already got the ball rolling with John @ Bespoke. And that's about it! I have already done some upgrades which I will list later, but the exterior mods you can see are facelift AE's which I already owned. I added the usual LED's to the rings and a 4300k HID kit for the headlight. It was a shame having to lose the OEM Xenons but I felt it needed the AE look. I also had a Muffler Delete done by Custom Chrome at Nuneaton which I think looks and sounds fantastic. Photos taken at my mates farm restoration project..... I'm not that posh  Cheers for reading! Mike

Is this M5 known to anyone ?

It's my old one. I would link my thread but I'm on tapatalk so I can't! I will find my thread and bump it up!
  12. Evening all I have just picked up a genuine Towbar and electrics for my daily Saab 9-3. The kit is supposed to be plug and play, which I have done, but I haven't anything to test it with! My socket is a 13 pin, so I was wondering if anyone around hopefully Hinckley, Nuneaton or Coventry has a caravan or trailer I can plug in and see if it works or needs coding. It says just plug in and add fuse but I know some have needed coding depending on year so I guess as quite often with these things it's pot look. I do have the 13 pin to 7 pin adaptor so anything will do really! I know you can get testers but then apparently the cheap ones aren't great as the LED's don't pull enough power. I have tested what I can with a meter so caravan live and fridge power which works fine, but the daft thing is it needs to sense a trailer to operate indicators and lights etc. Anyway. I know it's a cheeky long shot but if anyone can help I will gladly come armed with a case of beer or a KFC bucket or sommat. Ha ha thanks peeps! Mick

    BMW E39 M5

I had my muffler delete done at custom chrome in Nuneaton. It was £250 and sounded amazing. I always bang on to people to get it done. No drone on the motorway either. Sounded beautiful.

Ha ha no worries. Yes mate it's really easy. I did mine a year or so back. If you look at my M5 thread and skim through a bit, I put some instructions on how I did it.

1989 car phone in full effect

Yep it is. They still come the same size as they always have, it's just these days you "push" the small sim out of the full size card. With these phones obviously you just leave it as it comes [emoji106]

1989 car phone in full effect

If it all works ok then as above, a full size sim should sort it. I used a giffgaff payg full size card as they piggy back O2 and all was good!
  20. Really like that Henry. Lovely motor. Keep us posted!

    Proper type R

Wow I don't know how I have missed this thread!!! That looks a cracker, love the type R's. Always had a mega soft spot for them, even though I'm in the Evo camp myself, but don't spit at me and I certainly won't ruin your Subaru thread by posting an Evo pic! Great stuff mate and keep the updates coming! Good to see your looking after the monster.

    Write offs...

So many cat C's and D's about. I have just got a new car for the wife, I was shocked how many seem to be about these days. Unless we are all just more aware than we used to be 10 years or so ago.
