    Got the gearbox fluid and filter changed. The stuff that came out was not nice!
    “Sealed for life” Mmmmm I don’t think so.

    Shall not  be doing that again!. Virtually no access to the bottom nut. The right tools are essential: 16mm angled ring spanner. Thin 16mm OE spanner. A lot of patience.
    In retrospect, a 1/4 drive 16mm socket (if there is such a thing, my set only goes to 14mm) on a UJ might be able to get under the drive shaft to access once the initial nut is cracked.  A 3/8 socket is too big to get under.

    Well I have just done this retro fit of a power socket. All BMW parts too!
    Will get the loom done tomorrow, and the jobs a good one.

    Very nice but a bit expensive IMO. I would like aircon and leather for the that sort of money. Nice wheels!

    Hi All,

    I thought it would be a good idea to start a thread relating to e39 bodywork repairs.
    As the e39 platform is ageing, I have noticed a lot of members are now having repair and preventative work carried out, especially corrosion.

    I am hoping this thread could be a location where members could share the work they have had completed and make recommendations for bodyshops.etc
    I know most of us on the forum are meticulous over work carried out on our pride and joys - so would be a good place to share good experiences.

    Personally, when I have had bodywork carried out on previous cars, I have sometimes been disappointed with the quality and finish for the price paid.
    My car will need work (particularly around the jacking points) in around 24 months time, I would like to go somewhere reputable that know their way around an e39 can carry out the repair to a good standard, even if it means travelling further.

    If any of you have had work carried out, it would be highly appreciated if you could share some information regarding the repair and share some photos if possible (list of questions below that could be copied and answered).

    Bodyshop used;
    Work carried out;
    Parts replaced (if any);
    Cost of repair;
    Time taken;
    Other notes;

    Many thanks!

    Changed the front fogs. Trouble is when you start looking you find other things need  doing
    Now I need a RHS  disc duct, and lower fixings.
    Hey ho.

    Fitted and wired up the rear power outlet, and the wiring for the ctek charger.

    I have seen some poor/ amateur wiring in my time but thus must come near the most incompetent.

    Don't think there should be an issue. Never changed it for another, but my current battery have been disconnected and removed from car several times, never had issues with factory alarm or anything else, only radio settings and that type of things go back to default.
    I will get it changed first thing tomorrow morning, after that will know if there are any tricks, but I doubt.

    Yes, you put first key in ignition and pair it with car, all other keys (second key in your case) are paired the same way, just don't put them in ignition barrel. Google/YouTube is a life saver these days.

    I wolud agree with the previous comments. Definitely worth a punt. Is it an se with (working) aircon then whats not to like. Not as fast or indeed as frugal as the 525 but a manual is a bonus as nothing to go wrong in the transmission dept. A leather interior is very nice but the headlining will sag at some stage. The black roof bars will look awful but from the pic it seems to have the cross pieces. Nice and desireable.
    Red does tend to suffer more with lacquer peel/fade  than other colours. The pundits say the e34 is the last BM built before the penny pinchers took over.
    Go on you know it makes sense!
